Looking over the timings, in the morning 45231 departs to Blaneau within 15 minutes of 5690 passing south going towards Blackburn on the fellsman..

however the return looks a bit more interesting, with 45231 booked to arrive at 20.26-21.16, and
    5690 returning on the fellsman at 20.10 - 21.11..

Chance to see two steam services at the same time at Preston station and departing north within a few minutes of each other.

That was the plan a few weeks ago, Preston PSB even planned to put them next to eachother on 5 + 6. However the 5 was 60mins late and arrived just after 46115 left....

Sunset time is about 20.30 this wednesday, so shouldn't be that dark if they are on time.

Sadly, as of now, the weather forecast for Wednesday is not good. Atlantic low sweeping across the UK with wall to wall rain.

So in might well be dark at Preston that evening

What platforms at Preston are they departing from in the morning and also best place for photos?

As for the weather - It always seems to pick up driving eastwards along the M65 towards Preston - so lets see

Oh well - reading above, it didnt happen for once(the weather picking up) and it stayed gloomy with light rain.
I stopped local instead and photographed Leander from Wilpshire station outbound & through the gloom from Whalley Nab for distance shots on the viaduct on the return. (It nearly crossed again on the viaduct with the service train again).

Agreed that's a fine shot in spite of the weather.
