Both were, as you say, Bagnalls - Eclipse was converted in 1927 from Dorothy of 1899, The Coalition in 1930 from Edith built in 1890.

Slate Quarry Album, by Gordon & Ann Hatherill and published by Roy Link (ISBN 09538763 2 2, now I believe out of print) has pictures, details and side elevation drawings of both locos.

Lots of people think that they deserve better, but they are owned by a business.

Interesting point that, does that mean they may be available for sale then?

Mind you, I guess anything could be for sale - at the right price of course!

Even if you were to buy them, you could never restore them as they are mostly rust. I popped in to the quarry in April, they are a forlorn site!

  6. the Bodywork is mostly corroded but below there they are fine

Wow that's very defeatist don't you think, what about the likes of Duke Of Gloucester or more close to home Palmerston on the FR they were mostly rust at one point.

Armatures rewindable, controllers able to take mag blow-out coils, contact arcs in good nick then?

They are shagged - you stand more chance putting a boiler back on them and returning them to Bagnall/Adamson condition - getting them back into operational electrical condition would be astronomical. You might be able to get the wheels to turn if the armatures/commutator haven't mated together in a rust sandwich.

First things first - get them under cover, and former Llechwedd management were advised of this 2 years ago.
