And if you seriously want to run a public transport system in an area of low population density like north west Gwynedd - buy a fleet of buses! Much cheaper to run, no need for rails and expensive infrastructure, etc.

I hope you have many millions or billions of pounds to invest if you want a 60cm gauge tramway to cover half of Gwynedd!

With respect, the idea is to take traffic off the roads and most of the trackbed is in situ, if not up and running trains albeit NG or standard gauge already !! The idea is to make real use of what exists, do you realise that the FR and the WHR are only really used six months of the year, this is the equivalent of one railway not being used all year long !!, that's one kind of luxury we can all do without. Obviously, the existing bus service will be linked into the tramway. Finally, this new service will, with no doubt, create a new customer, this has been seen many times before after the opening of such a service. Let's just do it !! R

Actually, the FR runs on far more days than most heritage lines (there was an article last month - I think it was in Heritage Railway).

The reason the FR & RHE/WHR run far fewer trains in winter is that their PW departments spend the time doing heavy maintenance to get the track ready for the busy summer season. I've worked with the FR PW in August, it is very hard to do any major work as the trains keep getting in the way!

Although trains do not run 365 days of the year - there is not one month of the year when trains do not run - especially on the FR

P.S You don't happen to know some geezer called Collin Dale do you?

Perhaps you should take a look in the mirror? I'm sure the Welsh Assembly will put you right!

Regarding the North Wales Light Rail Transit proposal. If you would like to know, i have been very surprised at the good response ive found so far. Lastly, this is an serious subject, so if this is going to turn into a slanging match again, don't bother, you are all waisting your time, these proposals are going ahead regardless. Obviously i was right when i wrote that this subject was beyond the scope of this site. I think i will leave it there !!!

As you're clearly a man of your word, I'll take it that's a promise.

Only regarding the tramway project, i'm afraid. I've still got the best juicy bits to come for the FR/WHR !! Yes i am a man of my word, funny that you should write that, where have all those that were falsely accusing me of trolling gone ? they have all disapeared now, I'm sure it's too early for bed, maybe not for some !!

Although I think dear old Rennies ideas are a little far fetched it would be nice one day to see a preserved railway thinking out of the box.
There is of course a possible way to get the WHR completed without any more fund raising in the traditional form. However the WHR supporters haven`t liked my previous ideas for their railway I won`t bother telling them what they are...

There seems little point spending any more time trying to extract the reasons for your forthright, but vague and unexplained opinions on the WHR. Its quite clear they are based on bitterness and a substantial chip on the shoulder rather than any kind of factual evidence or sensible theory.

Indeed, your promotion of a 'North Wales Tramway network' has made it quite clear you dont know the first thing about what would and wouldnt work with regards to the FR and WHR, or indeed public transport in North Wales full stop. If you did, then you'd be talking about a Caernarfon-Bangor-Conwy-Llandudno route whose creation, however fanciful and unrealistic, might actually fulfill a useful public transport role.

If you have been falsely accused of trolling, renovater, that is truly sad and your accusers should be ashamed of themselves.

If that is true, however, then it must mean you actually believe this schlock you've been promoting, which is more unsettling than sad. I can't make my mind up as to whether you need to get out more, or be restrained.

Having read your discourses with increasing disbelief, I am more than ever convinced that, verily, they walk amongst us.

Moderators, if this counts as slagging, then I apologise; I view it more as considered counsel.

    Regards, as ever,

You'll have to do better than that, chrissy !! I don't have any reason to be bitter and neither do i have a chip on my shoulder, to say my opinions on the WHR are unexplained is untrue. I think you are being slightly economical with the truth regarding what i know and what i don't know. You are way off track, try again. R

I'm not encouraging this "alternative" discussion, however no matter your opinions, everyone is entitled to one, no matter how far fetched it is.

If you don't like someones opinion give either a factual argued response, or if it irritates.. don't respond or send a PM, but don't rise to it.

If youve got an idea, far from the norm, and your serious, don't force it on the other members, again give a reasoned argument for your case, people may take it more seriously.
