Something else you cannot help but notice on that video clip from the WSR is the amount of spurious steam leaking from points under the running plate.
Contrast that with any shots of 46115 in action. Decidedly steam-tight!

What do you expect when a loco is thrown in at the deep end with minimal, if any, running in.

some time ago and I can't remember where photo's were posted showing work done to the frames which to the untrained eye showed very little

Whilst I'm sure to satisfy our own curiousity we would like the truth to come out I suspect in order to save the face of many involved we will never know . The fact is that unlike 46115 which has run happily and successfully on the main line in 2009, 6100 hasn't despite the efforts of LNWR

Std tank: For an engine just out of overhaul I would expect it to be reasonably steam-tight, and to have the valve events correctly set.

However, as I am sure you would agree, it was a question of demonstrating "completion" and useage, for a Lottery deadline.

It went straight to Southall. The original Lottery agreement was that it was to be restored at BSM by their volunteers - didn't know many lived near enough to southall!

Anyway, as for the Youtube clip of it "storming" our of Bishops Lydiard - i would suggest limping would be a better description! Sounds like its running on 1 1/2 cylinders! Did they forget to put packing it too? I wouldn't have taken it off shed, let alone pulled a train with it. I pity the poor footplate crew - how embarrassing for them. Still beggars belief that various people are covering up the misuse of lottery funds.

Cant see it ever going back there.
In my opinion (for what its worth) the old girl would have been best left static in the loco shed as the restoration has caused so much grief.

But then again that would be wrong.

The remedial work carried out at Crewe was mainly safety critical as has already been discussed. There simply was not enough time to get to things like the valve timing sorted before she was due at the WSR and SSS2. Having travelled behind her at SSS2, there did not seem to be any lack of power needed for the duties there, due to the poor valve timing.
I have no doubt that before she ventures out again, all will be sorted.

Thank you for the clarification, my post wasn't intended as a criticism of Pete Waterman, perhaps I could have phrased it differently.

I didn't get the impression at the WSR that there was a shortage of power, but I would imagine that the firemen were aware of an increased fuel consumption!

No I guessed it was not meant to be critical.
I'm not sure that on a short run at 25mph the fireman has much work to do even if the loco is not at her best, but I know what you mean.
    Ralph.

Once all the problems are sorted I'm sure she'll give pleasure to many people around the country on both the main line and heritage railways. So chin up mate.

Do you know what I was thinking the same thing! First a B1 then a N7, what next a B17?
    The clues there!!!

Just in case this is referring to me, I wish to make it absolutely clear that I am not connected in any way with Impala. Any connection of B17 'Audley End' with N7s, B1s and other Eastern Region machinery is entirely coincidental!

    Paul

My misspelling is quite deliberate believe me. There are those on this forum who will know what I mean.
