Read in the latest issue of 'Steam Railway' magazine today (No.366) that Dennis Howell's Pannier number 9466 is to visit the Cambrian Transport ran Vale of Glamorgan Railway for Open Days over Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September.

    Any more info on this?

I understand it is running footplate ride shuttles on the Hood road branch at £5 a head.

    Dear All,

9466 arrived at Barry yesterday afternoon. It will be running this weekend for the Tall Ships Festival. D1074 is correct - footplate rides will be available over part of the line for £5 adults and £3 children over 12 (if I remember right).

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

    Bruce Murray

Spotted the following news on the WRSA site, seems someone is finally taking over at Barry?

IRIS II heads for Wales The two-car DMU IRIS II is about to leave for Wales. It has been stored unused at Dunster Yard for over a year. During that time the DMU - Network Rail Laboratory 19 IRIS II test train 901002 - was repainted by its owner from yellow to a more heritage style green livery. Recently towed to Minehead, the DMU will be moved to Bishops Lydeard in a few days, thence transported by road to Barry. WSR General Manager Paul Conibeare commented "The owner, John Buxton, is removing it to Barry to run services on the new railway, which John has just taken over. We wish John all the best with his new venture and I am sure IRIS II will be a popular and useful vehicle."

You are correct. The former tenants, the Vale of Glamorgan Railway Co, who had been there since circa 1994 were evicted by the council having failed in their bid to retain the operating licence. The new tenants, Cambrian Transport, now control the line. All VGR assets have been removed and any stock remaining is either privately owned or part of CT's own assets. The recent event with 9466 was run by CT.

D9521 and "Salty" are now based at the DFR, Pamela is now on the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway. The Class 108 is based at Pontycymer. RSH 0-4-0ST is also at Pontycymer, owned by the 7705 loco group.

The VGR still exists as a company and is based at Pontycymer on the Garw Valley Railway. The line is 4.5 miles long and is just north of Bridgend.

    Hope this helps?
