No I do not currently volunteer
It is the last day in service for the KWVR's Taff Vale Tank No.85 tomorrow, as it's boiler cert expires and it requires a full overhaul.
It doesn't seem 5 minutes since it was new to traffic! A great little engine and one i shall miss riding behind on my visits to the Worth.

    Here here

Great engine, it's been very reliable and a huge credit to those who restored it to original TVR condition from the totally clapped out NCB state in which it arrived as No.52 back in the early 70's. Let's hope it doesn't linger too long in the overhaul queue.

I'm afraid there is nothing in the kitty

Just like the Crab on the ELR the "in house" engine hasn't been credited with any steaming fees - net result - out of ticket, out of funds.

the summer gala brochure/ programme thing said that as it is so ideally suited to the line the overhaul will take place as soon as possible, no storage at oxenhope.

You sound pretty certain about that. I'll make some enquiries when I'm up that way in October.

It is to be overhauled. The caretaker told me recently that dismantling will start over the winter.

Let us hope so. The Worth Valley is somewhat reminiscent of the South Wales valleys that she was designed for.

I was hoping to see her of some time mid week, as the website said it was her last weekend, anyone one know exactly when the ticket is up and will she run.

Already have a film in the pipe line as I have been paying Taff a visit several times in these last few months. Last time as was on shed some said there was already a team waiting to get started, Make sense when she is such a good running on most of the engines coming on line in the next few years are all big engines while the smaller and more economical are all running out of ticket.

I may know a little more about finance than you think, but I'm not going to argue the point on here.

Time will prove who is correct.

Save to say I don't speculate, and I only comment from an informed first hand standpoint

I shall miss 85, a great little engine, probably the most reliable performer in recent years. I did more turns as a cleaner on her than any other engine.

As has been said by the other KWVR staff, work will begin on an overhaul almost immediately. The decisions as to which engines are overhauled are made in the loco committee, and one of the key factors is having volunteers willing to do the work. 85's overhaul has been planned for several years.

Without starting a new topic, can anyone just say if the 4F 43924 on the K & WVR, is still under active overhaul? If you click through the links on their website, it comes up as "major overhaul in progress", but that is tempered by the webpage update date, in 1999!!
