4 years ago on weekend 2/3 October 2005 I was at this event . Trains were running between Manhiem and Karlsruhe and also on 2 branches . From my photos I can recognise 03 1010 , 52 4667 ,01 519 , 01 1066 and 042 360-8 . There were at least 3 other locos , can anyone help with their identities ?

Down the pub at the moment but will check when I get home.
01 118 was one of the other Pacifics and 01 1066 came in on a railtour.
That leaves another Pacific, a class 50 and a class 23 to identify. The local
museum also ran their tank loco on pilot duties.

We were unfortunate to get a run behind that when the turntable stuck and trapped our booked steamer on shed.

Yes I remember 01 1066 arriving on the railtour and 23 042 rings a bell . Recall the weather being overcast but, mainly dry . Remember spending an enjoyable evening at Neustadt shed watching the various locos arrive , being turned and parked on the shed roads . Also had a great run with 03 1010 and climbed into the cab at Karlsruhe to thank the crew . Do you remember which branches were steam worked ?
Must get over for 175 celebrations next year. Thanks Spamcan .

The Class 41s and the 52 worked trains to Wissembourg just over the border in France. The 23 and the 50 topped and tailed trains to Bad Bergzabern. Both branches joined the main line at Winden.
Sun was in very short supply throughout the event and at times the light was beyond dull. Still a great event and the local rover tickets were excellent value. A day's unlimited travel for a bit less than €30 and that was for *five* people. Imagine that in the UK, a whole day thrashing around on the main line behind Pacifics for less that a fiver a head.
I presume you also gave full support to the German brewing industry. :)
Looking forward to the big Eisenbahn 175 event next year.

    Hello Claud Hamilton,

I have been away for a couple of weeks so have only just seen this thread. I was also at that Plandampf Wockenende in 2005 and the pictures I took are on my Fotopic site. I never quite got round to doing all the captions properly, but, if you were there, you will propbably know what they are anyway.

Feel free to have a look if you are interested : http://ronfisher.fotopic.net/c851595_1.html and http://ronfisher.fotopic.net/c851595_121.html

It did rain more than somewhat that weekend!

Agree should be good if not better than 2005 - Just back from sampling the Boppard/Emmelshausen rabbit on Friday. Recommend visiting before the DMU takes over - look like a DMU shed was bing built at the bottom of the climb. Rabbit only has two coaches but on full power up the ramp through tunnels and across the viaducts. Quicker up hill than down, valley very colourful now with autumn tints. Line all CWR apart from Emmelshausen which retains a loop and traditional points operated by German wheel levers from a cabin.
Saw two old 1930s box electrics hauling vintage carriages on the main line in the Mosel valley in between the freights, Rheingold stock and 103 on the left bank and some 110s in Koblenz these veterans fitting in between normal passenger and freights every 5 mins.
Next year should be good, the Eifelbahnn had its normal weekend Piglet taxi out on Sunday.

I, too, hope to be there. However, from what I hear, hotels in the area are booking up fast, so don't leave it too long!

Is there an all-Germany website for dates & locations of Plandampf, or if not, which individual websites is it best to trawl through?

    http://www.fotozuege.de/
    http://www.plandampfteam.de/
    http://www.revierdampf.de/engl-version/engl-index.htm

The above are a good starting point for the three main organisers of photo plandampf events in Germany. Two have English sites/gen. There are also a number of local events that are often advertised on Lok Report or http://www.drehscheibe-online.de/

In general the paid events are excellent and are more rewarding for photos than the big free events - but they are such a good show that they shouldn't be missed either!

Every enthusiast should experience German steam but be warned it is very easy to get hooked!

    Best regards,
