use low level wires, solves several problems, including passengers standing up. Level crossings could be an issue though.

I had in mind something akin to the Croydon Tramway system, which runs partly on former main-line trackbeds, partly across open ground, partly alongside the road, and partly within the road. Admittedly that is standard gauge, but ordinary s-g units cannot run on it. Exchanges at Bangor and Caernarfon, in the way the Croydon system has exchanges at Wimbledon, Beckenham Jctn and elsewhere, would reinstate the ability to travel by rail from the North Wales Coast to the Cambrian Coast so foolishly destroyed by Beeching.

Can't really see it happening, but it would be nice if it did !

Hi RGCorris. Think more in the way of the system in the Basque area, it's that which i feel comes close to what i am planning albeit with a less metro feel to it. I am completely against any idea of having to change from one system to another, there's no need too. Any standard gauge in the area will be left as it is and the new rail will go straight down the middle, this is one of the reasons why i want to keep to 2 foot gauge. There are certain area's which pose problem, for instance i would like to see more contact directly with the public in the Bangor area, but unlike Llandudno, road running is difficult there, these are some of the problems that need to be ironed out, in anycase i don't have any doubts as to it's credibility once the obstacles have been taken out. The whole transport context in the area is radically going to change in the near future and this will be in the favour of projects such as the NWT. I have seen from certain posts people are questioning the power supply arrangement, well to let you know i am working on an innovative idea which if it can work will not only reduce installation cost's but will also help the new system be more acceptable in this already sensitive area.

Hi. In every tramway system where i have participated in the construction, there have always been those who try to put the idea down before it get's off the ground. As far as the NWT system is concerned, any opposition seems to be mainly from WHR/FR supporters, i find this perfectly normal and would of been surprised if it had been otherwise. The NWT project belongs to the future because it's the right way to go. Please feel free to disagree with me. R

S'funny you should say that. I found exactly the same thing for the 397 tramway systems where I have participated in the construction. And that's only this morning.

What you clearly don't understand is that the Ffestiniog is of world heritage importance, and what you think, would just steal a part of heritage away from everyone else, it's a real shame that people like you exsist it really, really is, why can't you find something worthwhile to do with your life? If your lucky enough you might even get welcomed at a FR/WHR volunteer working party.

Tramways as a mode of transport are fantastic and part of an integrated system - superb . Experience in Geneva where they are building more tram lines to replace buses as it makes economic sense to do so shows how well it can work . I do despair at times that in this country we are so dominated by the road lobby instead of investing in much better integrated rail and tram solutions (it's not hard) and other countries do it very successfully

And herein lies my issue . I see little point in such a scheme in north wales . Beautiful part of the world but Renovator come and lobby Birmingham and get the midland metro extended across the city

    All

This is a forum where opinion is allowed.

Insulting other members is not, no matter how much you disagree with it.

I'm not sure the merit's of this scheme either, however it's in it's own topic and it's not taking pot shots at other schemes.. so live and let live.

Really If you dont like it, don't read it and more importantly don't hit reply.

Insults are being removed, even if some of them are quite funny.

I agree.. I'm watching the Festiniog every hour, 6500 miles from Blaneau in sunny Singapore...on a TV advert listing a steam train ride in Wales as one of the top 10 tourist attractions in the UK.

Bearing in mind the Grand Prix was here last sunday, thats atleast 100 countries that would have indirectly seen that TV advert in their hotel rooms much the same as I am now...
Those people are also seeing a 35% drop in the £ and a projected rise in the world economy next year.. better get some translators in there boys !

What better advertising than that !
