I expected to go that route but after checking times again it looks like I will be travelling Atherton-Man Pic-Crewe to arrive at 8.27 rather than risk only 20 mins connection. We will finally meet on the Royal Scot then John!
Return? Depends on times whether I go straight up to Preston from Crewe to see Tornado arrive before heading back to Atherton.

    Neil.

All those joining at Crewe will have perhaps noticed that the Cumbrian Mountain Tornado will be picking up there at 9am, so hopefully it will give it's passengers chance to see 6233 twice in the day, as we will be in Carlisle by the time they get there.

I finish work at 1am on saturday morning.. in Singapore, so technically with a private jet I could make this train.
Sadly my company will not pay for a private jet :) ... so think of me.
I'll be sat with a few drinks in the sun on saturday (if all goes to plan anyway !), i'm probably the only person out here wishing he was in the UK in October.

I'm in G, which is the buffet car. Oh well, at least it's near the tea and sandwiches.

And whatever passes for bottled beer tomorrow. Anyway, may see you chaps tomorrow. I'll be the reasonably young-looking chap with sideburns who appears in Coach K at Crewe, heading for seat 11, remain quiet for the entire outward trip, get suitably lubricated at the beer festival, and will talk to everyone on the way back...

Rumour has it there will be a strong BTP presence on this tour to keep an eye on potential trouble makers under the influence of steam, clag and all things intoxicating.
Have a good day out boys.

Out of interest, when steam tours arrive at Carlisle, how does the watering and turning operation work. Is it reversed out and taken to a yard for watering / coaling. Which route would it normally take to turn because by the looks of the map it can do it a couple of ways. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mike, I think we are taking our own BTP guy along just to keep an eye on proceedings... ;)

Are you lineside tomorrow by any chance?

    Cheers, Neil.

On trips that I have been on, the loco propels the stock onto a loop on the line towards the S&C.
    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&s...4.885149,-2.926097&spn=0.006332,0.021887&z=16

It then leaves the stock there, uncouples, runs past the stock and onto the chord towards the WCML where water is taken. It then completes the turn by going out onto the WCML and runs back to the station, then up to the stock and hauls it back into the platform before finally running round. I understand that sometimes the loco runs round first and hauls the stock to the loop before going on to the watering point.

But with there being the two trains there tomorrow it might not work like that at all........
