Carlsberg don't do steam preservation .....

It seems that even when you run what is probably Britains most consistently successful locomotive preservation group, there is always someone on Natpres that knows your business better than you do!!!

Yes I noticed that. He even knows more about NRM policy than they do it seems!

What about your dad's fotopic site that doesn't exist yet? You are not all perfect.

Generally, you're correct. However, by a mix of good fortune and astute management, MNLPS has been able to cover overhauls to date from income earned on the main-line and their members' fund-raising efforts. Of course, this may not always be the case, and if, in the future, the situation changes then the Society will adapt its policy.

As far as I'm aware, there is nothing in the MNLPS constitution to prevent Clan Line from visiting preserved lines, museums or whatever. I have seen film of her at the NRM, Dinting, Carnforth, Didcot and of course Hereford in the past. However, the society is very much focused on mainline operations and at the moment, that takes up all the available time and energy.

The hints of a few running-in trips "over the alps" are tantalising, but I bet we don't get to hear of them until they happen (or at least, I'll bet I don't get enough notice to get out of work in time!)

Yes I do as it happens. Clan Line's last overhaul was not funded solely by the income generated by steaming fees - a quick look at the MNLPS website will give you a bit of info. Other sources of income were called upon to complete the job, including the sale of some spare parts. I happen to think the MNLPS do a great job but not even they are immune from the financial realities of a major overhaul to main line standards.

Then the only answer Mr Stevens is to retire?

Your first paragraph is what I meant. 35028 did not earn sufficient money by itself to cover the cost of the overhaul. Like everyone else the MNLPS had to get out there and raise funds by other methods and a damn good job of it they did too.

It wasn't the fact the fotopic site doesn't work, just to point out that Western Bulleid is criticising everybody else, but not totally perfect himself.

I wasn't criticising everyone else, just the person who thinks he knows the MNLPS' finances without showing any evidence.

Indeed when I put that link up originally the site did exist, I helped him set it up, but if it is now offline then I will remove the link.

And there is a slight difference between putting up a link to a new defunct website and making a sweeping claim about a locomotive group that (as far as I'm aware) one is not a member of.

Anyway, back to 35028 and Ropley:

MHR website says the work on the pony truck is due to be finished today, with reassembly to follow. Due to leave on Friday.

Any info on what time roughly on Friday she's due to leave? No times as yet on uksteam.

You show little or no knowledge as to how 35028's last overhaul was financed nor taken notice of posts that went some way to explaining how it was achieved. Through our regular Bulleid Pacific owners meetings we to tend to find out quite a bit of each others
    affairs.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I very much doubt she will have a test run as such? And if she is - then i am sure it will be done with MNLPS crew?? 35028 will be tested on the 18 rivets that have been done as that was the issue??
