Does anyone know the reason for the trip
(apart from giving enthusiasts a field day)?

It was the Western because Colas didn't have an available 47 to do the move as far as I know.

I 'll back you on that Matt. I heard from a Railway worker at Exeter, that nothing else was available. I not knocking it at all, maybe soon a "kettle" back on mainline freight. I can but dream!!!!!

Slightly off topic, but it now seems "The Western Rocks" tour is off. Postponed until Saturday 20/03/2010 Serious problems with one of D1015s engines.

Steady, the word serious seems to have crept in from somewhere. One of the cylinders needs changing but it will unfortunately take longer than the time available before the tour on the 31st October. The Buxton tour is being redated to Saturday 20th March and D1015's next tour will now be to Scarborough on the 05th December. Apologies on behalf of the DTG and D1015.

Sorry to hear this roll on next March i seem to be jinxed with this loco recently last years tour to penzance was caped at the last minute and before that the Dartmouth arrow was replaced with a 66 good job i have had some good trips on various preserved railways with hydraulics this year.
