That is excellent news, great loco.

Any ideas what is next for Leander?

Mainly mainline again or any preserved line visits, would be great to see it visit the ELR again?

    Best Regards

Sorry but this info is incorrect, what has happened is the 7 year mainline ticket has been extended to 10 years by means of an intermediate boiler overall.

What's a boiler overall? Is it blue?

Seriously though folks. The uksteam link shows how thin the ranks of mainline ticketed locos are. Who knows when - or indeed if - the likes of 6233 and 4472 will be back. So even 3 extra years is good news about a proven performer like this Jube.

It's not quite that thin. There are currently 7 mainline registered locos, including Dennis Howell's pannier on shed at Tyseley. 4965/4936/4953/5043/5029/9600/9466.

I think that Tyseley have shown the way with 4965. Keeping the loco well maintained between major over hauls speeded up the work and ensured a rapid return to mainline working. Looks like Leander is benefiting from the same care. Bodes well.

5690 is now based in Carnforth. Have there any hearing as to how well her current overhaul is going? She was missed this past year. Hopefully though that shall mean an early return.

I'm really hoping this locomotive shall be out this coming year. With the way 46115, 44932 & 48151 handled last summer trips 46115 had way to many runs leading to the problems she had in the middle of August. I believe a 4th locomotive is needed. Leander would definitly even up the locomotives on how many trips they do for the summer season.

You want news on an overhaul being done at Carnforth? I admire your optimism!

Seriously though, hope it's coming on well, I've a real softspot for Jubilee's (5Xs as my Grandad insists on calling them!) and can't wait to see her back in action, perhaps with a classmate to share the load with :)

I don't know why www.uksteam.info is not including that in their 2012 Schedule, Is there something there that he knows that we don't? I would think that the Diamond Jubilee Fellsmans hence it name would be hauled by a Jubillee.

I have a thing for Red LMS locomotives. Another reason I love this locomotive is because of her performances over Beattock. rab4472's youtube account of the 2009 trip on The West Highlander". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL4EIas51bU is impressive.

My grandad is the same. Brought up in Carlisle in the 30s when we went to the GCR when Leander was visiting a couple of years ago he just looked at her, smiled and said 'that's how I remember them looking'. I have a feeling that I'll have difficulty convincing him to go and see 46233 over the next 18 months!

For me it is 5690 and 6201. Both are loud locomotives. That another reason I'm looking forward to Leanders apperance. Lizzie shall be going into overhaul, So I want a red locomotive out there.

Thankfully I love both of them.

With Leander [probably] due back relatively quickly, just hypothetically, who would be up for an LMS red gala somewhere in a few years time?
    Let's think, you could have
    5690
    8624
    13065
    6201
    6233

any other LMS (likely to be) red locos in steam, or likely to return to steam in the next few years? Where have that Ivatt and that Jinty gone?
