Hi, about a month ago there was a thread asking for info on the progress Boscastle and Taw valley!
There is an official BOSCASTLE website! see address below.

    http://www.boscastleloco.co.uk

Its updated fairly often. When they have time! Most of the time is spent working on the engine! But the guy does his best to keep us informed!
Hope this is useful to you all!
I have a few recent photos on my website under GCR 25.10.09

Thanks for the update Rick.E. The website looks very promising and it is good to see work progressing on the loco. With the boiler contracted out to West Somerset Restoration and knowing its previous history it will be interesting to see just how much of firebeox has to be cut out and replaced.

Thanks for the update Rick - Boscastle looks like she is going to be a fabulous example of a Bulleid I have seen once she is returned to traffic?? It makes me wonder with the strip down she is having etc, if they are thinking of mainline???

It will certainly, in my opinion, be a flag ship engine for the GCR and be another reason to pop along to Loughborough. Power to their elbows I say!

    Cheers,

Looking at their website I can't see any reference to mainline use, I too wonder if they may have this in mind this time. I recall that when Canadian Pacific was restored at Loughborough it came out in BR blue livery, guess they're not planning the same livery for Boscastle?

Yes I am an active volunteer

No it didn't . It ran on the GCR in BR Green . When it went to Tyseley for boiler work and extensive firebox work (I did get to see how much got cut out) and a return to the main line it was then painted in unauthentic but attractive BR Blue . Upon sale to Steam Dreams it was then repainted back into BR Green at the MHR

No, that's not quite right either.
It initially ran on the GCR in green.
It then got repainted blue at Rothley, using some paint left over from 'Sir Nigel Gresley'. This was before it went on the main line.
It went green again after leaving the GCR and going 'main line' (quite possibly when it was sold as you say, I wasn't taking much notice of it by then).

I didn't think any rebuilt WC were painted in BR Blue.

Surely no light pacifics were painted blue, rebuilt or unrebuilt. Only MN's appeared in blue roughly between 1949 and 1954.

Quite right, none of the Bulleid Light Pacifics were painted blue.

As an aside it was very interesting to see Boscastles ex Merchant Navy tender when it was being repainted at the Mid Hants. Where it had been rubbed down in places along the sides it was possible to see the transition through many of the loco's liveries from the Wartime Black, through Malachite Green, BR Blue and BR Green.

With reference to the recent postings about 34039 Boscastle.

As a member of the group overhauling Boscastle I can confirm that at present there are no plans to go mainline and no plans ( over my dead body ! ) to paint her blue.
We do have a regularly up-dated website www.boscastleloco.co.uk which has plenty of info about the loco.

Thanks for the update dscratcher - I for one would never have imagined the loco being painted in Blue livery - I only suggested about mainline, due to the amount of extensive work the loco is having done. She looks fantastic in every sense, so i think she is worth a mainline ticket..... You and the guys are doing a fantastic job, so I think she is worth to be seen for that and for you to get some worthwhile money back from her...
