Talking to Pat Goss of the 813 Fund today at Kidderminster, it transpires that their little GWR 0-6-0 tank that performed so well during the Autumn Gala has failed its annual boiler inspection, so has been withdrawn for overhaul.
813 was sat in Kidderminster today looking rather forlorn, with an "RIP" message. Later in the day one of the Electro-diesels towed 813 through Bewdley, presumably on its way to Bridgnorth.
Pat said the condition of the firebox has necessitated premature withdrawal, otherwise the engine would have gone back to the East Somerset Railway for a further spell.

It is hoped 813 will go into Bridgnorth for overhaul April next year. Money is still needed for the firebox, the overhaul could cost over £100k. This is a fabulous little engine and it will be nice to see it finally paired with the Barry coach that is progressing nicely at Hampton Loade.

Thanks for that link. 813 should be sat on your doorstep when you unlock the doors this morning!
How nice to have a website that gives uptodate engineering news concerning activities at Bridgnorth. Something that has been needed for a while. Duly bookmarked.

Looks a very well thought-out site.

Indeed, I had not bothered to bookmark West Somerset Restoration, given that the last two updates were in October 2007 and June 2008.

    Life is too short....

What is the latest news regarding 43106? Last I herad was that there were plans to borrow a wheelset from the tender of an under restoration Ivatt 2MT, 46512 from the Strathspey being a likely contender as it's own wheelsets are currently at Bury.
Heritage Railway also states that the SVR have taken the decision is to strip the top half a metre of trackbed away at the site of the derailment and install a 'geo grid textile reinforcement' - a technique used extensively in rebuilding the railway after the 2007 floods. This decision has been made ahead of the ongoing enquiries which are still to conclude their findings but are looking at (amongst other possible causes) flex in the embankment and subsidence towards the river which the reinforcement will help solve. The railway's own enquiry is likely to be finished by the end of November whilst the RAIB continue their own investigation which is likely to take 6 months.

Latest update on svr engineering website shows progress on 2857. Work has begun on the bottom end overhaul and it sits on the jacks in the workshops. The boiler has been progressing well for some time now with much labour being done by 2857 volunteers under guidance from full time staff. The tender is in the paint shop awaiting final sign writing. Hopefully this loco will be seen in action for this first time since 1994 next year at some point.

R.e 43106. Reports from SVR forum indicate that tender wheelsets have arrived at Bridgnorth from 46512 and repairs are being undertaken to 43106's tender. Loco should be back for santas.

28xxs 2857 and 2807 together in steam in 2010? Well, it would be only right really!

3822 is a later 2884 version isnt it.

2857 has been the only operational early 2800 version I believe, 1st time we will have 2 2800's in steam..

That is correct and intially at least the GWR will be the only railway they have both worked on!

Quick note in the latest SR indicates that 80080 may work service trains on the SVR next year following completion of it's overhaul -the boiler is currently being worked on at Bridgnorth. Could this possibly be the hire loco for next summer? SVR news hints that there maybe a requirement for an extra loco again next year.

SVR Engineering now report 43106 available for use, and expected to see much use on both the Santa and post-Christmas services.

Something to look foreward to on the after-Christmas trains.

Visiting 0-6-2T 6695 was found to have a number of suspect copper stays on the doorplate. These have now been changed, and the loco is being re-assembled for an Insurance steam test, after which the loco is expected to be available for SVR services.

Some initial preparations for stripping have taken place on tank 1501, recently recovered from the Engine House. Boiler work expected after completion of 2857's boiler.

Is that 80080 running trains for test purposes after it's overhaul? We know that some SVR Directors are very keen on Standard Tanks, but with 6695 and 2857 imminent, is another engine needed?
