And as I stated, I know its in its final stages.... but I know there will be plenty of snagging/maint etc!

Just all would seem rather tidy compared to what was there in 1981!!!!!!

1990.... little bit late then! didnt P&O think they would get that done quicker than that?!

    The two main 'old skool' GWSR loco's I class as ..... 2807 & 35006 :)

(gota watch it ere, I'll be gettin called a kettle head if I dont watch it!)

Yes, 2807 and 35006 were among the 1st ex BR locomotives to arrive on site. 2807 arrived in the company of 7821, 7828 and 5952. These were soon joined by 4936 and 5526. I think 7828 (Odney Manor) was the first ex-BR loco to be steamed at Toddington but the owning group moved its belongings (which were considerable and included the 2 Manors, the Hall and a steam crane) away from the site. In return others arrived including 76077 - which I thought at the time was a poor swap for 2 Manors! 4936 and 5526 moved on but both have since returned as working visitors. Both 2807 and 35006 have had their share of difficulties but of course the GWR is a totally different outfit from those early days of 1981. I sometimes wonder how anything got done at all then but it has of course. All being well, both 35006 and 2807 will be working next year but, as has been reported here, it ain't finished until its finished!

Well at least its a job that wont need to be done in the future then, might as well get it done whilst still semi dismantled still!

A perfect debut on the GWSR that will be wont it, a big GWR event!

It really ain't going to be finished until it's finished now! - I wonder how long the odds are at the betting shop re a working appearance at the GW 175 event? - pretty long I would say.

Only bookies win at betting shops

We would really like 2807 to be at the GWR 175 Event in 2010 in steam and pulling trains. If I could convert every word posted on this topic into £1 coins it would help (especially my words!). Every effort will be made to get 2807 ready in time. If it doesn't happen then it won't be for the lack of trying. You can help of course. Any spare change? Or perhaps a whole share at £150 a time. We are almost there and this isn't a Vulcan bomber!

Was mixed news at the AGM on Saturday with the need to re-tyre being revealed. What was impressive though was the agreement of the shareholders that this was the right thing to do, and the determination to have the loco in steam in the spring of 2010.

I've booked most of the GWR175 week off from work!

Although you can never be sure, i know that the 2807 lads and Llangollen staff are pulling out the stops to make sure they have a fighting chance of making it to the GWR 175 event at Toddington. (May 29th - June 6th!). With luck the event will see 2807 and 8274 make it an event not to miss. Just as a taster, when 4270 returns, hopefully in 2011 we will have a pair of GWR 2-8-0s in GW Livery, add an 8f and a 9f! and just for good measure, possibly in 2012 the return of 4027, anybody for a freight gala at some point! Now that i've said this - i just hope it happens!

Freight gala, exactly what I thought, 28xx, 8f, 9f and the Taff tank!

Could do with borrowing the GCR's windcutter set ahahha

re - 4270, wheres that being restored then, taking shape then is it?, that was a right wreck!

Crikey, GWSR is going to have some fleet in a year or two's time!!!!

Just shows you I suppose, if you have a good line, with great prospects ahead as well, it attracts good quality loco groups, with such stats, its putting it up there with the best of them, and it will get better!.. Very glad to be a part of it!

Just which we could get some diesel Hydraulics there!...

Although all the efforts are on completing 2807 now, I thought that some of you anyway might like to know that our genuine GWR (1945 built) Syphon G is now retiring from its hard duty of being the Cotswold Steam Preservation store/workshop/shelter/ you name it! The Syphon will now go to the Carriage and Wagon Works at Winchcombe (indeed it has probably already gone) to be restored to run in demonstration trains. Its still our property and I know that at least a couple of the 2807 team will be working on it. I attach a very poor photo of it prepared for departure in what could be said to be truly appalling weather conditions at Toddington on 21 November.

Latest photos showing more swift work being undertaken on 2807, including preparation for removal of the driving wheels for delivery to the SDR for new tyres, can be found at http://cotswoldsteampreservation.fpic.co.uk/

WOW! Looks like the midweek CSP Llan gang and the Llan engineers are making good progress on getting the wheels off.

2807s wheelsets being moved out of the shed today ready to go for new tyres.

Out of interest a comparison between 3802s and 2807s tyres.

(apologies for the quality - phonecam)

Many thanks for the update on this subject which is a little close to my heart. Excellent news again. (what with this and the piccy of Laverton bridge on the GWR being virtually finished it seems that Christmas might have come early - well, you know what I mean!) It was a bit of a setback to be told that the tyres weren't "up to it" when, until quite recently we had been told they were but, such is life. It was always known that 2807 would need new driving wheel tyres but it had been planned to run the loco for a while to earn some money to pay for them. Now we just have to reach for the wallets again. The loco has an appointment to keep in steam on the GWR in May 2010 so there is no time to lose.

It was a setback to hear this at the AGM, but good to see the positive response from all those present.

Great pictures regardless! It's good to see the wheels off to the SDR for their new tyres even though its a little earlier than was originally planned. I presume the photo with 3802 and another boiler alongside shows 2807's boiler with the smokebox now attached?
