I have been advised by RTC that this tour has been postponed ( rather than cancelled as stated elsewhere) and that they are looking for a new date to run it on.

Does anyone know the reason behind canceling this rail tour.

Probably lack of bookings. The only destination from the area has been Bath( about 4 or 5 times over the last 3 years) , and most people who have wanted to, have probably already been on it . RTC need to try some alternative destinations such as Weymouth or Sherborne.

May also be due to lack of paths around Southampton. The tunnel is closed weekends in December while they dig out the base to allow larger containers through from the port. Although a trip to the docks wouldn't use the tunnel, Northam Jct is going to be busy turning the trains that will terminate at Southampton Airport.

The possession includes Northam Jn and extends up to clear of Woolston and Eastleigh on the Sunday. I think it's the preparation work for replacing the road Bridge north of St Denys.(Also part of the W10 clearance work project.) It would be suitable for the 12 month follow up to the relaying of St Denys Jn.

All this was in the Rules of the Route acccessible on the Network Rail web site for many months. (Section 7 covers weekend disruptive possessions.) Please pm me if you need any guidance on what to look for in RotR.

    Cheers, Neil

After ringing up RTC this afternoon as i was booked on this trip, they look to be finding a new date with Network Rail. They mentioned that they will be hopefully writing to all booked passengers next week, when they know more news of dates etc.

Will post any details when i get it.

    Cheers
