    ROYAL MAIL STRIKE ACTION.

The 82045 Fund has been badly affected by the recent Royal Mail strike action. We distributed over 2,500 leaflets at the SVR during Tornado`s visit in an effort to recruit new members. Sadly the address given on these leaflets was Chris Proudfoot`s and he has not had any post for two weeks. It is piled up at the sorting office apparently.

One new supporter has been in touch as he had not heard from us. If there are any more new supporters who have not been acknowledged, please contact us via our email addresses on the website www.82045.org.uk ( Tony, Chris or Barbara ). Please be assured that the Fund is in excellent shape !

    November update

The latest update on the 82045 construction is now on our website. www.82045.org.uk.

We are still awaiting news from the Charities Commission regarding our application for charity status, perhaps in time for Christmas??

A very neat and humorous touch regarding the big Pacific opposite 82045's frames!

It is incredible how much progress has been made in just one year since the frames arrived and let's hope that this continues. 82045 is going to be a standard star!

Interesting about the £6k needed for the firebox. Would it be worthwhile having a section on the website where the items of highest priority are listed and their approx cost shown so that people can sponsor them individually or provide donations accordingly ? The NG15 folks in Wales have done something very similar on their website although I don't think theirs is prioritised. See http://www.ng15-134.co.uk/Restoration/Funding/Specific_Items.html
That way donors can see what costs are coming in the near future and which items have the highest priority and might be short term show stoppers without the funds

It's the closest to a GW design amongst the standards!

Sorry Pesmo, the £6,000 quote is for the smokebox saddle not the firebox ( I wish !).

We are aware that another project has been quoted £60,000 for six driving wheels including the pattern making. This gives an idea of a target for launching our appeal when we are a little closer to that stage. Add on axles, crank pins, tyres, axleboxes, springs etc.

Yet another group spent in the region of £17,000 for a new tapered section of a boiler barrel.

It is difficult to go too far in advance in obtaining quotes. For one thing they go out of date and one can appear to be a time waster to companies by not proceeding any further.

Hope you agree that the last 12 months has seen good progress on this project.

Out of intreset how much of the pattens being produced for 82045 be useful in the construction of of a 3MT tender type. I guess clyinders and wheels are the bl##ding obvious...

I only ask casue since the end of Southern Steam 40th anniversary celebrations I become a bit obsessed with the story of 77014 and her less well known sisters up north.

I think more than 99% of the patterns for 82045 would be useful to anyone contemplating building 77020.
The ones unique to 82045 would be minor ones such as tank level indicators and perhaps some of the castings on the trailing truck.
Obviously stuff for 77020's tender wouldn't be of use to 82045 but might well be to other BRSLOG members.
Everything visible here http://www.82045.org.uk/news/82045_news-sept09.html would be equally useful on both machines.

I think you'll find that most of the patterns for castings used on a BR2A tender are already available within BRSLOG

Which would make it even easier for paullad1984's wish to come true; but let's get 82045 finished first. Eh?

The SVR Autumn Gala 2009 had an "Ivatt" pairing, 41241 and 43106.

SVR Autumn Gala 2020: A "Bridgnorth" pairing, 82045 and 77020.

    Thats something to think about......

    82045 Fund missing mail

Further to my earlier postings regarding the non-delivery of mail to the Fund, I can now confirm that a large number of mail bags have been found. The Royal Mail are sorting them and we hope to receive our missing post in the not too distant future.

Some of it may be damaged and unrecoverable, therefore we would still be very happy to hear from any potential new supporters whose membership applications/standing order forms may have been caught up in this and who have not heard from us.
The missing weeks were from the end of October till mid November (approx.).

Fortunately, The 82045 Fund is thriving and has just celebrated it`s first year of construction.
Many, many thanks to all our supporters.

An interesting point in the latest Newsletter, amongst progress on a number of fronts, is the comment that there may be discussions with the SVR Boilershop team to see if the new boiler and firebox can be built at Bridgnorth. This comment follows the news that Bridgnorth have been awarded a contract to build a new boiler for the Tallyllyn. Looks like a welcome expansion of capacity at Bridgnorth, under the guise of SVR Engineering.
