The NRM and Bachmann (with the help of the GWR) are releasing a 00 gauge model of City of Truro. The photo of the model is a pre production model btw.

Mine has arrived, but after a brief couple of laps of Westwood Junction has been packed away for the 25th December.

Looks superb, all we need now is a model of 9017 in BR black.

Is the bufferbeam number authentic for the livery/period it's meant to represent ?, certainly it had 3717 on the bufferbeam and later GWR livery towards the end of it's life, but the real thing only has cabside plates in current condition.

Does the model represent the 1950s (restored by BRw) condition or current 21st century condition? Either way I'm pretty sure the buffer beam should be plain red - sans lining and number.

It looks like a cracking model but one thing that jumps out at me in the photos on here is that the smokebox door appears too large in diameter which does drastically alter the 'face' of the loco.

On a separate note is this the 1st RTR outside frame steam loco that has been produced? Cannot think of any others.

In fairness that didn't have outside connecting rods, that said the predecent was set for that long about with 08 shunters.

Go Compare (Sorry!) - maybe there is a slight difference in the relative size of the smokebox door ... (apologies again for lifting the photos) Its still a nice model.

Martin - bear in mind the design compromises that allow the smoke box door to open. Apart from that and the buffer beam number I am really happy with it. The model can haul seven Mk1 coaches so I am confident about running it on Horton at the Brighton Modelworld Show in February 2010 ;)

    Regards,

    Dan

Well the bufferbeam is incorrect for 2009 condition, im not sure what condition the NRM have it in mind, i suspect mechnically it's in it's final form but painted in as new livery.

As for the smokebox, i think the whole works is too big rather than just the door, comparing with the prototype the 'rim' around the door appears of roughly the right size, therefor the entire box has to be too big for the door to be, i suspect Bachmann may have copied the smokebox off a Hall/No 1 boiler.
