What's the status with this DMU, as nothing is mentioned much now about this unit?[IMG]

Couldn't tell you much except that it has been out of service since 2002 awaiting overhaul. Don't know when this is planned to start or if any work has been undertaken so far or if indeed any work is actually planned let alone a timescale. I think that part of the problem is that the need for it over the winter diminished with the availablilty of steam heat diesel. Also a loco is prefered on the 1 train service which has a diesel last trip of the day as it is just a case of a loco swap rather than a set swap.
It is sad though I do hope the railway does overhaul it and find work for it. I have fond memories of travelling the line in that DMU and it gives passengers a different view of the line of course.

I have seen it for a few years languishing in the sidings at Winchcombe but it has recently moved to Toddington.
Whether that is for work to begin or space needed at Winchcombe or even just for the Christmas galas, I know not.

I too would like to see this running at some stage but I am aware of the constraints

Maybe it could work the Laverton service as a shuttle?

I thought they were installing a run-round loop at Laverton? This would mean they wouldn't need it for that. We use our DMUs at Swanage as a suppermently service, espeically as the 'Cromptons' never had steam heat. Although last time I was there the class 108 and 117 units were out needing seroius repairs themselves, but the 'new' Bubble is proving to be excellent...

Let’s hope it doesn’t go the same way as 31123 (D5541) went? A big shame that his loco didn’t receive an overhaul.

    GWR DMU

A close inspection of unit would reveal that the engines have been removed whilst at Toddington........

    Allegedly for overhaul.....

Shame they ended up like that. They have the usual 108 problems. Not a bad vehicle because of the aluminium construction but then steel ends always rust!

Such a Shame, that used to be a fantastic unit when it was repainted. Hope it returned to service in the future.

Only just noticed this - Cheers for the update Mr Blackadder! I do hope that it is overhauled - I enjoyed my times on that unit!
