With 5764 (early season) and 2857 (late season) there should be 5 active GW locos - hardly a small number to work with and supplement with hires compared to the available servicable number anywhere else??

One of the things about GW175 or the earlier GW150 events is that the GW community 'count' the anniversary of the GWR from the date it got its Act in 1835, not the date which the line was opened from end-to-end - London to Bristol - which was 1840. Isn't this all a little too premature, there wasn't a railway at all in 1835!

Ah but hang on - 5764 early and 2857 late season. That doesn't mean they will be available at the same time. I don't think hire would really be cost effective for an event like this and I doubt the railway would want to hire engines etheir. Also with the addition of 2857 it would make 6 (2857, 7802, 7812, 5164, 4566 & 5764. The trouble I have with this line up is that it could easily been seen during a peak time service anyway when there are 5 engines working 5 sets of coaches. It's this lack of difference to a normal operating day that puts me off the idea (although personally I like the line up), especially if this event was held over the October half term as suggested. Tornado's half term visit was sucessful for the railway because it attracted the general public as well as Tornado. The signifiance of a GWR branchline gala is more than likely lost on them and if I am honest I don't think it would encourage them to visit in the same way as Tornado did. The trouble is that as much as you and I would love such a line up it lacks the wow factor for the general public. IMO the railway needs to look at putting on something along the lines of running Tornado or something to capture the general publics imagination and get them visiiting and spending their money. The GWR had the right Idea when they had 5972 there in 2009. Something like that is needed to bring the public and their money to the railway. Remember ultimately revenue is key to the railways continued existance.

Well in the eyes of the Law that was when the GWR began to exist!

In the latest 'Steam Railway' it states the 5526 from the South Devon Railway is already confirmed, with 61994 as a strong certainty to attend, with provisional bookings for 70000 and 3205! :) Sounds good...!

I'd be very surprised if 70000 will be at the March gala. Much more suited to the September reunion gala. Last i heard 3205 was still in bits. Id rather see 3205 in May for the proper re opening day.

I don't anyone, I wait to hear about things like this until it has been mentioned on the SVR forum or from a third party.

Well in the latest Heritage Railway the guests are listed as 5786, 78019 and 61994 for the spring gala, with 5690, 70000 and 6960 invited for the autumn gala. The article also claims that an attempt will be made to bring in 3205 for the May 40th anniversary weekend providing the overhaul is complete. Should be interesting if correct.

I am sure that is wrong for the spring gala as I know 6695 will be there and she is a guest! I do like the way the railway press keep forgetting that she is a Swanage loco. :mad2:

Ann that was me sorry!!! The Article does mention 6695 as a guest as well - Just to claify HR have the guests down as 6695, 5786, 78019 and 61994 - I guess my original post should have read as former resident visitors oh and I didn't forgot that it was a Swanage loco just didn't mention it in the hope that Swanage would forget and we could keep it!!!

Great line ups for both galas. Very much looking forward to seeing 61994 on the teaks, in black! Saw it once in black prior to the axle failure last time round - will be nice to saviour it a bit more this time! 5690 on the LMS set later in the year will be great to see too. Will be keen to see what photo charters may be organised to capitalise on the visiting locos...

The SVR's advert in 'Steam Railway' for their spring reunion gala states that visitors come in the form of 61994, 78019, 5786 and 6695

Well, Durr, could it be because it was on the SVR for umpteen years, and this is an SVR Reunion Gala?
