It was trial tested on the frames (there is a post somewhere on the forums to that effect) basically to guard against an issue that occurred when Green Arrow was last overhauled where there was an alignment or position problem when the boiler was placed on the frames.

It's historically accurate to the last 10 years...its history didn't end in 1963...sorry, couldn't resist that one! ;-)

Hope to have some more positive news in days to come, was looking at the replacement cylinder on Thursday - this will be right when it's done.

    Cheers
    Anthony

As the livery debate has resurfaced yet again, how about this for a solution:

    Don't restore it!

If it aint restored there can be no arguments about what it looks like!!!

Ah yes, but then we'd have the "restore/don't restore" arguments... #-o

And then we'd have livery debates again! #-o
How about LNER green with NRM lettering on the tender, now that would be authentic for 201? + wouldn't it :-# :-$
I think I'll retreat to a bomb shelter now.

I think the NRM's old 'viaduct' logo would look particularly fine!

How about you paint one side in LNER Green and the other in BR green. That way everyones happy as 50% of the time your looking at your preferred livery.

That was going to be my next suggestion,
with of course one smoke deflector,
on the BR green side only!

But what about the chimney? How do you get a single chimney on one side, and a double on the other?!? :-k

Ooh! Smiley faces all round then, and we can have a Fairburn tank back in Caledonian Blue while we're at it?

not sure if this carries a NP moderator's ban, but

"At last Gordon Brown decided to throw the towel in and resign. His cabinet colleagues decided it would be a worthy gesture to name a railway locomotive after him. So a senior ‘Sir Humphrey’ went from Whitehall to the National Railway Museum at York, to investigate the possibilities.

“They have a number of locomotives at the NRM without names,” a specially-sought consultant told the top civil servant. “Mostly freight

    locomotives though.”

“Oh dear, that’s not very fitting for a prime minister,” said Sir Humphrey. “How about that big green one, over there?” he said, pointing to 4472.

“That’s already got a name” said the consultant. “It’s called ‘Flying Scotsman’.”

“Oh. Couldn’t it be renamed?” asked Sir Humphrey. “This is a national museum after all, funded by the taxpayer.”

“I suppose it might be considered,” said the consultant. “After all the LNER renamed a number of their locomotives after directors of the company, and even renamed one of them Dwight D Eisenhower.”

“That’s excellent”, said Sir Humphrey, “So that’s settled then .. let’s look at renaming 4472. But how much will it cost? We can’t spend too
    much, given the expenses scandal!”

Well, said the consultant, “We could always just paint out the ‘F’”

I was thinking why not have 4472 with a single chimney so that the smoke deflectors wouldn't be needed and would be accurate for 1928-1948 and from 1963 overhaul-1993. I think 4472 should stay apple green but as long as shes in steam.

I'll always remember my first encounter with 4472 which was that I went on a diesel hauled railtour from Slough (I think it started at Paddington with 2 EWS Class 66s) with my grandad for the Newton Abbot Transport Festival in 2000 and when he went to pay for parking 4472 flew through the station, then when on the train we passed her at Newbury Racecourse taking water. Then we saw her approach Newton Abbot at the Racecourse and finally in the siding. And it was great seeing the pannier as well.

And have you read my post. I said as long as she is in steam.

I'd prefer LNER apple green but if she's LNER Apple Green, Wartime Black, BR Apple Green, BR Blue, Early and late BR Brunswick Green with or without smoke deflectors I wouldn't care what she looked like as long as she's running.

I read the first 9 pages and the last page.

At the end of the day the fact that we still have her should be noted first. Being restored to working order is a bonus. I wouldn't of minded if like Green Arrow 4472 was put on static display for a while. It also means it could be displayed in original appearance if deemed needed. More importantly it would give a chance for more of the locos at York that realistically could steam again allow them return to steam eg Evening Star.

Whatever the appearance it will be nice to see 4472 running once more whenever that may be.

    Regards

    Duncan

    livery for 4472 ?
How about apple green but with british railways on the tender same as Tornado then lets see who can tell them apart of course it will have to be 60103 , or just maybe renumber it 60164 just to wind even more people up i know its not going to please everyone but at least you could make it look kind of right
