Hi Ian and welcome to the forum.

As was posted by a couple of members prior to the run care has to be taken not to give out info on a public forum that could at least have legal implications for the forum or poster and at worst provide info that could be of use to some of these nutters who want to create a terrorist atrocity for some cause or other.
I think most members got their info direct from each other by knowing who to ask and passing the info on to others as we do when linesiding etc. This was the case with the Cotton Mill last Saturday, I was nowhere near a PC for 3 hours or so but knew within a few minutes what was happening at Lancaster and Preston.

    Neil.

Hi Ian, and welcome to Nat Pres.
That's one of the advantages of a forum like this, being enthusiasts we have contacts, and although with a Royal Train there is quite a lot of secrecy because of security, there will always be a certain amount of information that is shared.

When it comes to steam hauled specials then this site is a good source of information. http://www.uksteam.info/tours/trs10.htm
Details of what's on and timings are usually posted during the week leading up to the tour, although outline times are normally on the tour operators web site weeks ahead.

    Ralph.

Cheers folks, I thought as much. I saw the Preston-Manchester on http://www.uksteam.info/tours but thought that was it. I didn't realise it was going back to preston to go back to manchester (which seemed odd when they could have left it parked in manchester?!) then down to crewe afterwards. Was this known to you chaps before hand or did it just come about yesterday?

I'm guessing the only way you chaps found out is by asking a friendly signalman in the know or enquirying with someone who does ;)

    Thanks anyways!

Sources are not revealed and those who do post any info are not asked where it came from.. :tape2:
The Whats Going On section covers any forthcoming tours etc.. http://railways.national-preservation.com/forumdisplay.php/20-Whats-Going-on and any news beforehand, updates on the day and comments, photos and videos after the event.

So yes, a little info regarding the movement back to Preston during the day was known beforehand, but not confirmed until the morning.

Mind you - You couldn't have written it

He came up to lecture us all about global warming - behind a fossil fuel burning steam loco arranged especially for him!

Do as I say - not as I do!

But I'm damned glad he did!

That coat Frank? For the same reason that his Mum always wears vivid pastel shades from head to toe - so he can be picked out from 200 paces, like you did Frank!

    Peter, at dawn in Manchester

That coat is probably pretty good quality and cost a few bob, so he intends to get full value from it, it's called thrift, what would comments be if ever time he appeared he had a different one on... Can't win can he.
