That's not the point of the gala though. It's still a former resident regardless of whether it ran or not.

All the more reason for them to want to see it run there, I'd have thought!

And it'll be nice to see the visual comparison between 46443 and 78019, maybe even double-heading...? In fact, of ALL the railways 78019 has visited (tongue firmly in cheek!), would this not be the first time an LMS 2MT 2-6-0 and BR Class 2 2-6-0 have been seen in steam together in preservation?

But if the attraction of the loco is "we already have an almost identical loco on site :)"... maybe I'm missing something here?

But you've singled out 78019, when with that argument why not be critical of the choice of 5786?

    Anyway, 78019:

    - Former resident
    - First time in steam, for both loco and class, on the SVR in preservation.
    - Compliments the other moguls: 46443, 42968 and 43106
    - Cos it'll look nice!

Well it was a combination of the fact an almost identical loco is already on site, and the fact that 78019's seemingly been just about everywhere lately! Looks like I'm the only one who feels that way though...

I'm just glad of the abundance of steam arranged for the gala! More steam = more fun!

Above person never seems particularly satisfied with any gala- whether it be the wrong locos, wrong timetable, right locos not being thrashed enough or in the wrong double headed combination, or on the wrong load etc etc. In fact I'd almost be disappointed if he didn't make some objectionable post on a gala thread, because it usually makes me laugh or cringe!

For your info, I do care about loco combination, stock etc, and yes I am almost always satisfied with galas as I have had a good day watching steam trains, is that a problem for you? And is it bad that i'm not criticizing railways? I'm just glad they are putting on a show!

I read somewhere that the SVR are trying to get 30777 'Sir Lamiel' for the Spring Gala. True or False?

False, as far as i'm aware, 30777 was never a resident. Seeing as it is the 40th Anniversary Reunion gala i can't see it being possible, maybe for 2011?

It was only ever a visitor - Gained some fame for being about the cleanest engine coupled to the dirtest support coach ever seen at the time of the visit - I think it was the early to mid 80's

30777 wont be for the Spring gala as the timetable is now pretty much finished with only 4 weeks left until the event! It may will be another visiting engine for September.

I don't think it is due in september! - if anything a 2011 visit might be on the cards. Timetable is finished now!
Just in case anyone didn't know - Friday and Saturday of the Gala will see late evening running - Make the most of that rover and stay late - it will be worth it!!!
