If your heading over towards Leicester Sq, then i'd reccomend "De Hems" it's a dutch pub near soho.

Ben and I have had a few beers at the Wetherspoons at Baker Street, its not bad and are known for some reasonable priced real ales... and food

Some us Nat Pres Londoners may be around to meet Lizzie when it arrives.

I have never eaten in London, oh wait though yes, it must have been when I was at the Motor Cycle show at Earles Court in about 1960. Since then I have been perhaps a dozen times, to a show or concert, and never stayed longer than was necessary, recently, only twice in the past 10 years and all I saw was the inside of St Pancras as I was passing through.
So the answer is no I have not eaten in a London pub or other eatery since 1960. :D

That's some achievement! No, I wasn't intending to eat at the White Horse, as I have seen their food go to other people who have a mortgage on several occasions. Whilst it appears to be very good, I fear it is a bit too gourmet for a day out behind steam... which is why I intend to go from there towards Euston after a swift one, stopping at a couple of pubs en-route to get a burger-in-a-bun and chips or something. I hope we have around three hours there though...

I was in The Bree Louise a couple of weeks ago, good choice of beers, but the prices......WHOA:jaw:. Wetherspoons is as good as owt for a couple of pints, there are plenty of them round London.

So we have 3 hours to sample the local hostelries and collect a few provisions for the return journey, sounds good :thumb:

Am I wrong to say that the ECS moves at the bottom of the UKSteam page indicate that the stock will be turned, meaning that if you're at the back leaving Crewe, then you're at the back for the whole day? A bit unfortunate if you do end up at the back all day though don't you think? But if thats what it takes to run the train, then I'm not complaining!

Yes it does look like that, but as you say that's what it takes to run the train. With the movements involved just servicing and getting into Euston in the time allowed, the extra work involved in getting the stock reversed is probably not logistically feasible.
I'm sure that TOC's appreciate that not turning stock for the return run, is fairer to all concerned.

Another consideration with what way the stock will be facing will be the route from New St - Wolverhampton, via Bescot would 'turn' the train whereas via Sandwell would be as off Tyseley, i'd imagine the latter would be favourable to avoid a run round manouvre in New St.

I'd have thought the ECS from Tyseley would go direct into New Street. When it goes towards Wolverhampton it won't be turned regardless of via Bescot or Sandwell and Dudley

I believe that the train will leave Tyseley with the Pulmans at the front, therefore standard class wil be at the front from Crewe. It therefore seems likely that standard will remain at the front for the return journey as well.

It was a similar situation behind 6233 on 10 October 2009. At the end of the day, I doubt those who booked premier dining particularly want ash and smuts in their soup!
