I think if Salty knows nothing about any renaming then i suspect someone has their wires crossed.

Pity it will be dark for the blast up Old Hill on the return but should be out in the morning to pay my respects to Swindons finest.

You can get a decent shot from the public side of the fence

Some of the people I saw down at the foot crossing were on the public right of way, however, there were a few who were well away from any 'legal' vantage points.

Presuming you mean 'Challow' - then for the eastbound service any of the following map references between Swindon and Wantage are OK: SU227875, SU310904, SU375908 (the last is nearest Challow, but photographically the least interesting).
For the westbound, then the last reference again, or going nearer to Swindon then SU245877.
You either need OS landranger 174, or the OS website.
    Hope this helps.

I'm surprised at the lack of reports about this railtour. Can anyone give details of this mornings climb to Sapperton tunnel? Admittedly the train only had 10 coaches in tow and was hauled by two locos but it was the most impressive and noisy accent that I have witnessed for a long while. TIA. <BJ>

I had a great day on this yesterday. Performance from both locomotives & crew was excellent! We were ahead of time most of the day and the weather was the icing on the cake.
Well done to Vintage Trains and all those involved!

    Some great photos/vids,well done.

Had a brilliant day yesterday and has already been said,it was boosted by some great weather, and noticeably warmer too,i was very surprised then to wake this morning to about 3 inches of snow!!!!!
Well done and thanks to all yesterday, the locos performed brilliantly,as per usual. Nice to get off the mark in 2010 after 2 failed attempts with 46115!!

I've uploaded a vid at Ashchurch on the return at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9u7UZ6fLLQ
Unfortunately, they didn't open up through the station, but I left the camera going so you can hear them accelerating away towards Worcester.

That's Arle road bridge Nick, before the station.

Did you recognise the mad "tooting" van driver as you awaited your lift near Chalford :)

I too had a good day out watching this spectacle (through a lens), I didn't quite make it the other side of Swindon in time. Oh how I was praying for the train to be held a couple of minutes! About a mile away from the location and I saw a stream of steam passing. So close.
Both engines seemed to be making very light work of it, but then again I guess they should.

Many thanks for the pics and video's on this one. Although given the number of people linesiding I'm surprised that there aren't more of them.
Thank you too for the comments from those on the train.
From a personal point of view it really was a day when everything came together to make it all worthwhile. We didn't get rained on at the water stops that made a pleasant change given the last six months or so. And to cap it all I had the privilege of being on the footplate of 5043 as we stormed up Sapperton. It doesn't get much better than that. :cheer2:
