Ah, Wong Kei! Brings back memories of a holiday at the Police Training Centre at Bramshill when dad was working there...

Gosh you lot talk as if London's expensive.. you should try leaving the country with a £ that worth nowt... :)

In London dont forget to get an Oystercard (unless you've got a bus pass for the more senior ones).. without an Oystercard it's £2 cash fare per bus ride and £4 cash fare on the tube.

35028 arrives back at Victoria at 1605 on the VSOE (and is rarely late), from Victoria to Euston is 10 minutes on the Victoria Line Tube so there's time to see it before your return train.

According to UK Steam Info 6201 and 35028 depart Clapham junction within 1 minute of each other (6201 is 1547, 35028 passes at 1548) .

But is it worth it for this once in a blue moon visit.

Having not travelled in London since 1996 I haven't a clue about Oystercards etc. Can I just get a day rover for £4 for the tube or is it more complicated than that?

    Thanks, Neil.

Thanks Matt, that looks like the best bet, too late to buy one on line though, so can you get them at any station?

Yes, just ask for a day travelcard. You usually have the option to either pay through a window or a machine. Being very much a nineteenth-century chap lost in modern times, I always opt for the window. There's slightly less chance of Credit Card fraud there...

There should be a unique photo opportunity somewhere there then...

Having Similar throughts, providing a move to Victoria/Waterloo then Tube to Euston isn't too tight timewise.

Hmmm. I would like a better set of photographs of 35028 than the ones taken during 'The Merchant Venturer': rain, cloud, darkenss, wind, poor camera and beer- a lethal combination.

Can anyone suggest a good place to see 6201 heading up camden bank, which doesnt involve using a stepladder? Having a look at streetview the options seem limited...

    What i'd do is maybe..

Goto Clapham, view both and jump a train to Victoria.. (about 5-7 minutes)

    or if short on time

Goto Clapham, take a train to Vauxhall (just about everything stops there every few minutes).. walk downstairs out the door and into the tube... onto Euston directly (about 20 mins in total).

Getting to Clapham from Kensington is dead easy.. it's a case of getting on the next train behind 6201... every 30 minutes at 17/47 past the hour... you may get lucky and see one of the new 378 units, with the loooooong corridor / wide gangway coach connections.. (Singapore metro style) or one of the soon to go 313 units.

Long-range weather forecast on the BBC Weather site states that there should be white clouds (as opposed to dark rain clouds) at Nuneaton and Milton Keynes; sunny intervals in Crewe and London. All in all, it looks to be a good day weather-wise, so here's hoping that it doesn't change between now and then.

As for travel cards, you will probably have to get them from machines at Kenny O,they take some operating too in my experience, usually end up spending half the afternoon there!!

Just a thought but will the 47 stay on the back from Crewe to London, or will they use a WCRC 47 from Southall ?

Thinking back to when 5043 came from Brum, it came on it's own, went ECS to Clapham Yard, the run round and went light engine around the Hounslow loop, but with 6201 UK steam mentions using the diesel to turn the stock at Battersea to Clapham, and again from Willesden to Euston, so maybe Tyseley's 47 takes it to Crewe and stays on at the back ?

The 30 mins at Crewe on the return might suggest the coupling of a 47?

Oyster card. We find they are the perfect way of using transport in London. No queueing for tickets or machines, automatic top up, cheaper travel, they never expire. A bit of a fiddle to set up initially but worth it in my opinion.

I don't know why "queueing" is underlined or heavy type, it just happened guv, honest.
