Right so far we have seen what's happening up to June on the mainline.
So what would you like to see on the mainline for GWR 175 part two?

Pannier tanks on GWR branch lines, particularly South Wales & London areas (probably logistically difficult?)
Castle and/or Hall on the South Wales mainline and through the Severn Tunnel.
    Birmingham to Weymouth.
    Salisbury via Westbury.
    Paddington via High Wycombe.
    Shrewsbury to Chester via Ruabon.
    Birmingham to Minehead.
    More Devon & perhaps Cornwall.

    How's that for starters?

A climb over Talerddig and onto Aberystwyth.
Maybe even a recreation of Talyllyn / Ffestiniog AGM Specials ? Talyllyn be good to possibly link in with their celebrations this year.
A climb of Gresford as mentioned in a previous post would be good, as there hasn't been a Southbound working for a good few years.

Panniers up & down the Welsh Valley LInes and in West Wales around Whitland to where they could be moved by road if need be. (1) Whitland - Fishguard (2) Whitlan - Milford Haven (3) Whitland -Pembroke Dock (4) Whitland - Camarthen would in my view make ideal and probably never to be repeated trips.

    Absolute pipedream but

28xx given a temporary mainline permit, pick up a load of stone from Frome quarries, deliver it to the rail terminal at Wootton Basset and then run light to Swindon to be transported back to home base. I guess at a push if 3822 was up for it, it could make its own way back to Didcot. Would have to be a Sunday working if it happened but I realise the chances of this are somewhere between no and fat!

Never saw any panniers working those branches including the Cardigan branch plenty of 4575's though and nicer in my opinion.

    Cheers Dave

Both 57xx and 94xx appeared regularly on the Pembroke Dock line - 94xxs on freight only as it was (partly) a "dotted red" route and red engines were subject to a 25mph speed restriction. 57xxs were shedded at Neyland, Milford Haven and Fishguard with 94xx at Neyland (out-based at Whitland). 16xx panniers worked on the Cardi Bach, but not 57xxs which were over weight. Of course the 45xx/4575s worked everywhere !

I would love to see a Castle from Cardiff-Carmarthen with panniers to Tenby and Pembroke Dock.

David (who grew up with steam in West Wales).

If anything is worthy of happening to make a Dream come true for David has to be worth it ! I'd book a ticket and just photograph the trains

No chance of 3822, at the moment it looks like it will not run this year due to boiler issues. Not only that but the cost of all the mailine crap that has to be added for 1 trip would not make it worth while. For the 150 I think it was 2857 that did do a freight working, wish I had seen it but I could not get there.

I was pretty sure it wouldn't be viable hence the pipedream comment. Sorry to hear of 3822 - I've somehow managed to miss seeing her in steam so far, but hopefully you can't keep a good un down for long. Does that mean however that she is probably now out of ticket until a boiler overhaul, which would presumably be after the 72xx is finished?

    4079 running anywhere.

5051 taking 4079's place in the workshop.

I love the idea of a 28xx on a Mendip stone train. Merehead put on a great show in 2008.
