For those that have booked, I am sure that they will find that the combination of a fine engine, a suitable water carrier, experienced crews and some excellent paths, worked out with care by Network Rail, will make for a memorable day on April 17. Less than 4 weeks to go!

CCT's are 4 wheelers, what you are thinking of is a GUV. From memory Tyseley have a NXA which is a GUV converted for car carrying. In fact the NXA concerned is 96100 which was the prototype and was passed for 110mph running when first converted. Big problem for Tyseley is that it is air brake only, so can't see that being used.

I used to live near Slough... It's a complete dump to be honest, although the railway station is nice.

You can swap for Wakefield if you like! Officially Travelodge customer's 2nd worst city! Why,on one side is a building site which has not progressed for 15 months, on another it looks onto a busy dual carriageway and on the other 2 sides are ugly back streets!

Then go to the lovely Streethouse on Streetview, paradise!

To get slightly back on topic.
We can't seem to agree on the type of water carrier to be used. So maybe someone will come up with the answer to this one.
What livery will it be carrying?
Bitterns second tender would match quite well with 5043's livery.
    6024's water carrier.....no livery.
Temporary water troughs at Goring....Network Rail Yellow.
96100 air braked only and in Inter City Livery.
Watering from the air... Silver with RAF Roundels.
Milk Tanker ....Aluminium with United Dairies in white and blue.
Any other suggestions will be met with hilarity in the mess cabin at Tyseley.

I'm not sure Bittern's second tender would go down too well with the hardcore GWR fans out there... Not with that LNER crest on the side anyway! :D

First Group Purple with "Dynamic Lines" branding, after all guys, don't forget, its a joint effort!!

As for the carrier itself, many many moons (and posts) later, I still think the Mk1 BK idea is the most feasible, or am I just being a bit boring and unenterprising? :sing:

Searching back in my dim memory I seem to recall someone came up with a flying pig logo (may just have been a Photo shop job) - given all the "pigs might fly before this goes non stop" type speculation I wouldn't be that surprised to see this logo making an appearance on whatever is used as a water carrier.

Timings for the first positioning move are now on uksteam.

Still the usual long stop at Hinskey, as well as a pause at Leamington. Could overtake and get it twice (or four times??!!) me thinks !

You could always put 'Gresley Was Right' in gold Sans lettering. Would look rather nice on green *runs away and hides*

There is one far more important issue regarding any use of Bittern's second tender on this tour. 5043 is vacuum braked but Bittern & both it's tenders are air braked.
