A cracking run. Tommy Farr was the driver, formerly Virgin West Coast driver before retirement, and according to those at the droplights no diesel assistance was given leaving Euston.
Arrival was 2 mins early at Piccadilly.
A helicopter paced the train for a fair distance, filming for a Midlands news programme perhaps??

Main line steam around Manchester 27 March 2010

In the morning, an immaculate Stanier 2-8-0 No 48151 headed the 14 coach Help for Heroes charity special through Patricroft in a lucky moment of sunshine. Train engine is the Britannia running as 70048 The Territorial Army.

At lunchtime A4 Pacific No 60019 Bittern arrived (hauling two tenders) at a packed Manchester Piccadilly on the Palatine from Euston.

Instead of the planned move to Guide Bridge, the train moved only to Ashburys, from where Bittern made an early departure, arriving at Stalybridge at 15.30. She then sat in the loop until about 16.15 when she finally left for Huddersfield and York .

Must be one of the benefits of being a track worker or alike on the day of a steam special, especially on foot of camden bank. Great find for us all to watch.

Taken at Kings Langley this morning.

Since the last steam special with Princess Elizabeth, London Midland have constructed very impressive observation platform/multi-storey car park in the former goods yard just north of the station. There were twenty four people and over a dozen cars on the upper deck, when Bitten passed. A few minutes later all the people and cars had gone.

Just posting to add a thank you to the staff at Wilmslow station on Saturday who were very helpful and freindly towards the linesiders who were on the platforms and advising people of the times of service trains so they didn't get bumped.

    Thanks again, Neil.
