A post on WNXX today suggests 61994 has failed with 'middle boiler' problems. I'm translating that into middle cylinder, and given the lack of detail it could be a load of tosh. Anyone know any more?

Thought it was undergoing some work at Crewe?
Should have travelled from Kidderminster on 16th March then going from Crewe to Thornton on 6th April.
    Puzzling!

Could the 'failure' have something to do with todays date ???

The work being done at Crewe is on the tender and its due to leave for Thornton next Tuesday under its own power.

Might be our old Scandinavian friend Loof Lirpa - however the WNXX thread was started on 31st March.
No-one from Crewe has commented yet so, perhaps, someone's leg is now slightly longer than the other!

Hopefully this was just someone getting the wrong end of the stick, as if it was true I would've expected someone to have confirmed it by now. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I've been told today that Marquess is now moving Crewe to Thornton on Monday, not Tuesday as planned, it was re-scheduled incase of the threatened strike.

It would seem that the original post on WNXX is, as you postulated, a "load of tosh".
I contacted one of the loco's Scottish support crew and, so far as the crew are aware, there are definitely NO PROBLEMS with 61994 and are expecting it back at Thornton directly.

Unless anyone from LNWR at Crewe has anything different to report that seems to be Game Over and, hopefully, the Mods will lock this thread to save further 'froth'.

The support crew are currently lighting Marquess (03-03-10) steam test tomorrow (4th) and as I said earlier, the move to Thornton is now on Monday to the same timings given on UK steam.

As this seems unfounded unless anyone with 1st hand definite info gets in touch, I hink it's safer to shut this thread before rumour becomes gospel
