Anybody on or out for this one? Given 6201's performance last time over Shap and Beattock (70th anniversary run, 16&17.11.06), I'm hoping for more of the same. Some snow would be nice too...

Hoping to catch this around Shap & Beattock. The 3 x s would be very nice -- steam, snow & sun -- and looking at the latest forecasts there seems to be a good chance of snow, but forget the sun !!

Hiya David,i had thoughts of getting her at Boars Head from a standing start at Wigan, but would mean dragging myself out of bed rather early :( would sound good that time of day though.

Sounds good chaps. I came over Shap tonight on the M6 and no snow yet, but finger's crossed! (plenty of strong evening sun and dark clouds though :) )I think I'm looking to get out for the Wigan-Preston section first thing (before heading North) - that said I have been known to say this before waking up in the morning and hitting the snooze button..... ;)

Looked like a lot of empty seats but it did start at stupid o'clock. Maybe more will board en route?

What is the weather like en-route? Looking forward to seeing some shots against the snow. Last time I saw that was with Leander on a CME, must have been 20 years ago.

Very quiet on the line side too, no snow at either Shap or Beattock were we saw her going well.

So how would you plan it, start 2 hours later and get back after midnight? Or cut the run round to about an hour, but as quite a lot of people on that trip will like the 4 hours to explore Edinburgh, that is also a none starter, so RTC seem to be in a no win situation.

I've uploaded one of the shots from today at Beattock, the other two from Beattock & Shap are available on the Part 2 DVD.

I would have run it as it was originally scheduled by RTC. This trip was originally to run on 2nd April behind 70013. Late in the day the date was brought forward by one day. I guess NR have work on WCML over Easter and the paths were withdrawn. The start time was about 8.30am with the same time in Edinburgh. This was also a positioning move for 70013 for GB3 with the return diseasal hauled. I imagine many customers took up RTC's refund offer hence the relative lack of passengers. What is the point of running a tour if passengers can't actually get to the start to catch it?

this was a brilliant tour , loved every second of it, princess elizabeth over shap and beattock it can't be any better, thanks to support crew etc, for great trip and some excellent running, and the train was full so if people dont like it stop complaing about it, how else do you expect to get a train over large parts of the wcml and back in a day?, i would book on a rerun of this anyday.

A thoroughly enjoyable day today started with an entertaining drive across from Edinburgh - the snow drifts had completely buried some cars with quite a few left abandoned in the middle of the road, providing added obstacles to avoid on the drive. Most had been recovered by the time I returned and the snow was quickly melting.

Lizzie stormed through Beattock village, but quickly lost speed on the climb and then made a steady ascent to the summit, seen here nearing the top:

Second pic is barking out of Calton Tunnel on the final approach to Waverley:

Day ended watching Lizzie drift across the Forth. Magic.

I can only add my thanks and praise to those who got out to take such excellent shots,
    Simon, great video as usual,
Phil, who needs full sun when you get a shot like that, the snow on the distant hills adds that icing!!!
Paul, a brave man indeed judging by the conditions we saw on TV, as has been said the shot in the snow on Beattock, superb.

dp266 it appears you jumped to a wrong conclusion regarding the passenger numbers, "Excellent tour, full from Preston".
If I had been travelling on it, I would also have joined at Preston as access from the Warrington area is easier going north that west. Cars can be parked there relatively safely and cheaply, near Lime Street???

Where is Lizzie now? UK steam has her going to Bo`ness but seeing her cross the Forth would suggest she went to Thornton.
