As I have commented on Youtube, it is interesting to see that all the still photters has left the platform before the locos were out of sight. Are they therefore just there for the photograph, and not really interested in actually seeing the locos?

I'm afraid I'm one of those idiots who will watch till the last whiff of exhaust has left the skies. I've often said the joy to me is seeing, smelling and hearing steam (especially on the big railway). Something I thought 50 years ago could never happen again. The video or photo (stunning as some are, like those of Lizzie yesterday) are, to me, just a bonus and something for those who couldn't be there in person.

At times when the weather is absolutely terrible (maybe like tomorrow!!), I tend to leave the video camera in it's bag and simply watch the train thunder past. My fondest memories of steam are of when I was a lad watching trains struggle up the 1-50 inclines of the Somerset and Dorset railway. No worries in those days about the wind direction, the sun direction or the coach liveries. Oh what a joy it was. <BJ>
