Black Five 45231 was seen heading north between Wolverhampton and Stafford today on the back of a lorry. Heading for Carnforth maybe ?

It could be in action on the mainline a lot sooner, I suspect.

whilst I have faith in Ian and his team re 45407 , it is going to be very very very close so maybe cover for 45407. Also given shap and beattock and possibly 5690 on it's own , maybe as a pilot . Not sure what gb3 set is , but say 11 plus support , with pullmans and some heavy kitchen cars . Might be prudent

The info i have Leon is that 44871 and 45407 ( maybe 45231 will stand in for 45407 if the loco is not ready yet ) are booked in to to take over from 46115 for the Preston to Glasgow leg on Friday ( 5690 has a superheater problem so is not available ) .

Ian Riley confirms 70013 to glasgow solo, 44871 + 45407 following a little later or was it in front, one or t'other.

    Much to RTC's dissappointment apparently.

I would presume in that case that 45231 is heading for Carnforth as it's due to work the Jacobite Season in May in Scotland...

But I have heard NOW that 46115 is unavailable to take the tour tomorrow so 70013 is covering instead!!

So the Light Loco Move (5Z71) is DUE to be 44871 & 45407 ALONE with 70013 on Tour!!

45231 won't be going anywhere under it's own steam just yet. According to last night's G.C.R. e-newsletter the rods are still at Loughborough being re-bushed.

    Regards, Oddsocks.

45231 was basking in the sun beside 62005 outside carnforth steam shed on monday afternoon 12th march.

45231 was in light steam at carnforth middle shed this afternoon, Mon, 3rd May, possibly a steam test after work on the engine.

45231 in steam this afternoon, saw it shunting Olton Hall onto the turntable, which was then turned to face north, then 45231 had its tender filled with coal. 33207 is parked in front of the steam shed, dont know what is going on... as usual.

I had a text that 45231 had left Carnforth at 3.31 thursday 13th may with the stock for the jacobite and was heading for Fort William.

well its looking like (no idea whats going on) Olton Hall might be going on sunday steve, it just left carnforth towards wennington, don't know where its giong, just happened to go to carnforth this morning and it was heading for the gate off shed, in view of what the footplate crew on 45231 said this morning, I'm guessing, so I dont know what they meant. heard a rumour that 45407 might go north on sunday, once again I'm guessing.

Is this Olton Hall rumour speculative, or based on any fact? The K1 has a path north on Sunday from Shildon and will head up then, assuming it's ready. 45407 definitely won't go north on Sunday as it is working the tour to Ayr. It does have a path in the system to head north to Fort William on Monday, but there's also one to take it back to Grosmont. Ian Riley posted on The Works that it is going to Grosmont, so there's no reason to doubt that. My guess is that the only way 45407 will go north is if the K1's repairs look like taking longer, or if 45231 has problems on it's journey north. I don't see any reason why Olton Hall should be needed as it is pretty useless for the Jacobite.

well as I said, guessing, mere speculation on my part, couldn't think of the word at the time and what you have outlined is now on uksteam, I agree that the K1's repairs may take longer and think that its not certain what will happen if the K1 is not ready by sunday.
as for olton hall, I'm not at all versed in the technical capabilities of steam loco's, I just got the bug for watching them since 1955, what pisses me of most is seeing pics and vids on the web of engines that have passed nearby that I didn't know about, so if I see any about, forgive me for excitedly speculating that which most often turns out to be balderdash.

    Signed,

    ardent steam enthusiast.

There is no truth about 5972 going to FW. Paul's post is rather nearer the truth - 62005 is booked to go up to FW and resume its place on the 'Jacobite' roster, tomorrow. In the event that the repairs aren't completed (and, presently, there's nothing to suggest that they won't be), 45407 will go in its place, after its duties with the SD 'Coronation', to Ayr; otherwise, 45407 goes back to Grosmont.

Leon - you've been asked before - politely - will you please stop posting mindless drivel and speculation about WCR activities, on this forum. If you wish to hang about on Carnforth station at 3am, that's your choice; however, when your wildly inaccurate rubbish cause concern amongst our train crew and jams our telephone lines with conerned passengers, we start to get annoyed.

Don't do it - you have been warned.

    JS

Once again, thank you for providing clarity Mr S. It might not seem like it sometimes, but it is appreciated.

Here's hoping for a trouble free Jacobite season!

    Kind regards,

    Dan
