And if you aren't traveling on the train why should they be made public?

Im sure 5043 would have enough grace to refuse to move if he was rostered!.

Received tickets + times today! I am v excited about this trip. FGW are really backing it. Prominent on the FGW website + lovely posters on many stations.

As a 14yr old bunking school travelling on the " last" 16.15 Pad-Banbury with 7029 I did not dare hope to leave pl3 (!) behind 5043 45yrs later--a loco I missed for haulage tho' often saw!!

I DO have a problem, however. I booked dining with my "other half" We are offered brekkie to Pad on the spl HST to London from Exeter then VT pullman lunch.Followed by High Tea on the HST from Bristol to Exeter. Phew! Better fast on the friday.

Seriously,FGW have made huge progress + IMHO are running a service tht I'm v happy to use on a v frequent basis, having been a critic only 2-3yrs ago.
I suspect Mark Hopwood,MD, is behind this active support of VT. He knows many FGW staff "live+breathe"railways. He certainly does.

FGW backing this celebration of 175 years is fantastic!

The posters are certainly striking and if you can get hold of one I'm certain that in years to come they will become collectors items.
We've been given copies of the poster and mine is safely tucked away at home.
Your comment about FGW is spot on they really have gone out of their way to facilitate the running of this train and they are also involved in helping with the running of The Cornishman 15 May and The Red Dragon 19 June.
It just goes to show what can be done when the Heritage and Modern operators get together.

    Yes David Blair.

For this trip my guess is the other Ray, Poole not Churchill. Either are likely to give good entertainment if permitted.

Every other trip is made public on Info so what's so different with this run. Be nice to get a Paddington departure time for 5043. I'm on the up run so would be nice to see the first one.

Because it's a steam hauled train, not a state secret. Don't be so petty.

1133 Paddington, 1356 BTM via Bath, return 1702 off BTM via Parkway, 1937 at Paddington. Not actually seen the times, just passing on what I have been told.

The BRISTOLIAN must rate as the highlight of a fantastic week for steam through READING. SIX workings in FIVE days. Can't recall that happening since steam days and credit to the authorities again for fitting them into the extremely crowded Reading traffic.

Because people who cannot travel for whatever reason (usually cost) like to go & see these trains, especially this one as it is a special one off plus the interest of the water carrier.
I'm sorry but I think you are a hypocrite, look at the first line of your post #29 here!

No I do not currently volunteer
Sat departures from Paddington around that time are:
1127 Oxford Cl 16x (Ealing Bdy, Hayes & H, West Drayton, Iver, Langley, Slough then all stns to Didcot and onto Oxf)
1130 Bristol TM HST (1st stop Reading)
1133 Heathrow T4 Cl360 (Ealing Bdy, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall Hayes & H, Heathrow)
1142 Reading Cl 16x (Ealing Bdy, Southall, Hayes & H, West Drayton, Slough, then all stns to Reading)
1145 Swansea HST (1st stop Reading)
1145 Greenford Cl16x (Acton ML, Ealing Bdy, West Ealing then all stns to Greenford)

If 1133 is correct, then with the Heathrow Connect departing at the same time bound for the Down Relief, and no HST between 1130 & 1145 could it possibly be a path Down Main to at least Slough, possibly Maidenhead?

Lets not descend into another travelling v watching debate, some linesiders do really shoot themselves in the foot when requesting times in an abrupt manner that really doesn't do anything to endear them to the people who have such info, a bit of polite courtesy can go a long way, remember no one HAS to give these times out so be thankfull that they usually do come out one way or another instead of bleating they are not availible well over a week in advance.

Also keep in mind people like Saltydog would mostly likely be in trouble with people higher up if they revealed something they shoulden't on here.

I find the attitude of secrecy rather surprising from Tyseley. I’ve paid £700 for tickets for both trains and I cannot see any reason why the times should be kept quiet. The only other train this was done for was the Top Gear special and that was at the specific request of the BBC (quite reasonable really in that case).

I think the ‘pro’ photographers who never travel will find the times one way or another. It’s the average enthusiasts who will be disadvantaged.

Whether it has to be kept secret or not, I think the reply from Saltydog to Stephen (#361) is just downright rude & ignorant, a polite explanation would of sufficed. There again, that's this forum all over. No one can be polite or civil.
