Thanks for posting the link. We really did storm through the station although I think I incorrectly said the centre road when I made my original posting. Anyway it was a stirring experience.

Quite a bit of noise yes, but at around 40mph, hardly storming....

To us soft southerners that is storming! Compared to how steam charters usually go through Reading 6201's run was impressive although in comparison to the video I have just seen of 70013 going through Carnforth on the GB III it's rather restrained.

Impressive video and I agree to the word 'storming' After just joining the main line from the South Western electric line, you would not expect top speeds, and its VERY rare to see a train of any sort non sop through platform 4. I was surprised she acually reached the speed she was going so quickly !!

That video at Reading was shot from a quite literally borderline-to-reckless position. A few more on YouTube like that and the Reading rozzers will start treating photters like they do at York.
I've seen a lot of vids captioned as "storming" which show a train a lot slower than that. Leaving Bishops Lydeard, for example, lol. Perhaps the word describes the power being applied by the driver more than the sheer speed. Then "belting through Reading" could be used to mean "doing at least 60".

It is fantastic to see these engines getting the chance to do what they were designed for. Thanks for the link!

Here's one where 6024 got the chance to run like that just past Reading on last December's Bristolian :)

This really is a storming run, Bittern through Doncaster last year. My GPS was showing 76mph

    Edit:

Look out for the strange couple walking on the platform, not so much as a glance to see what all the noise is about.

Thanks for two amazing clips, I'd not seen either before, both have that "wow" factor!!!! As Green Five says, gets the hairs on the back of your neck.

And I do love the way the announcer at Chippenham's warning about the approaching train is interrupted/totally drowned out by the approaching train actually arriving :blah:

60009 definately sends a fair few hairs standing on end in that clip! Let's not forget also PSOV's rip roaring footage of Duchess of Hamilton storming through Warrington. Now that is real Stanier action!!!
