    Thanks for the info re:30120. Can't wait to see her back in steam and my Dad is over the moon it's coming back in lined black, just really hoping it's gonna make a visit to the Bluebell soon.

    Just a correction to the date my Dad has just checked his notebook and it was the 25th August 1985 the photo was taken.

    I was fortunate to see30120 in its lined black livery at the Mid Hants in the mid 80s (I have some photos somewhere I'm sure!) and I thought how elegant it looked. It will be great to see it back in working order again.

    Great news and I am very happy that she will carry the smart colour I first 'copped' her in. Don't want to start another 'Livery' war but I far prefer to see Loco's in the colours I first remember them wearing. After all; is there anyone left living who can remember seeing pre-grouping liveries running through their local station?

    Having said all this I have to admit that when I started spotting some of the Bulleid's were still in Malachite Green. Yuk! Never liked it then and still don't now. However; I would love to see that blue on a Merchant Navy again.

    Also not wanting to start a livery war, but isn't that half the point? If people only preserved what they could remember, what would be the state of Furness 20 and other locos of a similar vintage?

    I can just about remember her in action at the MHR double heading with 34105. I found the photo's over Christmas.

    i can remember her doubleheading with the N tender to tender , many years ago, when the extension to medstead opened, but most times it was with the s15 after she had been repainted, i always prefered her in black, the early BR mixed traffic livery did suit her , talking about double heading, can anyone remember when Britainia came down on the railtour and 30506 dragged her and the train up to medstead and we at ropley could still hear it as it shut off approaching the station , i didnt know a S15 could make that much noise

    So does everyone else. It's just we all saw stuff at different times. Having spent the best part of the last 40 years on the Severn Valley, I'm now more used to seeing stuff in pre-Nationalisation liveries than in BR livery, so I'm no longer so fussed. There's no doubting that some of the pre-Grouping liveries are stunning. The Bluebell exemplifies this par excellence. That such a lot of engines all over the place are in BR liveries, is because a lot of the people in senior positions on preserved railways are now my vintage, ie. 50s and 60s trainspotters
