I see, that's good. Can which way round the engines are facing be put on the timetable?

Further questions: What stock is being used? I know the mk1 set and a freight has been mentioned. Will the international stock and/or DMU be used to add capacity? Again, can this be put on the timetable?

The second is a bit cheeky as it's a specific request: Can they please run get the 4F (when facing West) with the freight down the main line connection at Longville Junction so that when it comes back into Orton Mere it appears to be on double track? Preferably in the afternoon.

44422 and 73050 currently both west west (smokebox first out of Peterborough). The MK1 set is being used along with the freight set. The continental stock will be shunted out the way for the event as it won't be appropriate. The DMU in undergoing maintenance.

Regarding your request we'll have to see.

The event organiser is now in possesion of a Pines Express headboard ready for the event. :)

    Getting excited... ooooh...

Next question: Will lineside passes be available for the event? If so, how can I get one?

So the 14 does an early morning trip from Wansford to Peterborough and back with the continental stock.

Then next 44422 does a 9:15 trip from Wansford to Peterborough with the mk1s, arriving back at 10:21, whereupon 73050 takes over the mk1s for the 10:30 departure towards Yarwell. 44422 goes into the yard (for turning?)

At 10:22 or just after 44422 has cleared the section into Wansford, HE3844 runs light engine to Peterborough and collects the goods train, which it brings back to Wansford, arriving at 11:33 and crossing 73050 and the mk1 set at Orton Mere.

73050 then arrives back at Wansford at 11:56 with the mk1 set. At 12:00 the 44422 and HE3844 double head or top and tail (it's unclear which) the freight towards Peterborough. At 12:10 73050 departs to Yarwell, and crosses the freight coming back at Orton Mere, with the freight arriving back at Wansford at 13:12. 73050 then runs non-stop from Peterborough to Yarwell, arriving back at Wansford at 14:04.

The 4F then takes over the passenger stock, departing Wansford at 14:10 towards Peterborough. On its way back, it crosses the freight, this time single headed by HE3844, which had left Wansford at 14:30.

73050 then takes over the mk1s for the 15:25 departure, again running back non-stop from Peterborough to Yarwell. Just after this clears Wansford at 16:30, HE3844 runs to Peterborough with the freight, which it exchanges with the continental stock for the return to Wansford (hang on a minute, how did the contintental stock get to Peterborough, didn't the cl 14 bring it back to Wansford at 09:55?). Anyways, at 17:00 it's the last train of the day, crossing the austerity and continental stock at Orton Mere.

The 14 runs the continental stock to Orton Mere to be shunted up the Fletton loop and returns to Wansford Light Engine.

Turntable demonstrations have now been added to our website with 44422 being turned at 11:00 with 73050 being turned at both 14:40 and 16:45.

    Cheers

Please no! Either the 4F or the Austerity on the freight will look very nice but to double head with them is just plain silly IMHO. Looking forward to the event as a whole though.

This happens in order to take the 4F to Orton Mere after which it detatches and runs to Peterborough to form the Pines Express while 3144 continues with the freight

Quite a good day at the NVR yesterday. Pity the weather didn't play ball to start with. Fitting 73050 with a chime was a nice touch. Second turning of the 4F was a surprise, a bit of a pity in a way as the arrival shot of a late train with the sun on the north side of the line is a bit of an NVR rarity and it meant it was tender first. I do wonder about renaming the Austerity for the day as 'Lord Salisbury' as the original was a green Peckett and who decided on black and white nameplates? Still it was entering into the spirit of things I suppose and all in all it was a good do. Well done to all concerned.

Help get 34081 back on the rails.

The chime whistle was Britannia's and was kindly lent for the day by Jeremy Hosking. As 73050 was originally fitted with such a whistle the request was made and Mr. Hosking was happy to oblige.

I knew it was Jeremy's but the penny didn't drop that it was off of 70000. Sounded very nice indeed. I have a recording on a Peter Handford EP of a 5MT with a chime but it sounds somewhat different to 73050's. I think this is due to the fact that another batch of 5MTs had smaller chimes fitted atop the firebox as opposed to behind the chimney
as on 73050. I stand to be corrected though.

Was a wonderfull difference and sound being on the footplate of 73050 with the chime whistle fitted. A huge thanks goes to Mr Hosking for providing us with it for the day, to make our event that extra special.

    Cheers

The earlier Class 5's with their whistles mounted behind the chimney had the chime whistle as used last Sunday. At some time 73050 obviously lost it's chime whistle as when it first arrived in Peterborough it had the smaller whistle fitted.
From loco 73100 the class was built with the smaller whistle fitted atop the firebox.
