I'm just waiting for someone else to start the ball rolling. I'd seriously love to bankroll such a project project myself, but unless I win Euromillions I don't have enough dough to purchase an ex-Barry hulk, nor do I have an inkling as to where to start such a project. Taking all things into consideration, I'm personally happy to contribute a bit of money towards it, but only when something more concrete has been announced.

Snippet in the Beano that Mr Riley is clearing the decks to put Shaw-Saville back together.
In his shoes the simplest and quickest and without a doubt cheapest option is just to restore it to its rebuilt condition and get it into service.
Would not dream of making a dispariging comment on this or any other course of action when so much has been done to keep a whole succession of other engines steaming by the Bury workshop, but judging by the interest generated by this and other Bullied threads if an expression of interest was made to 'Spam it up' im sure there would be popular support /contribution....?

the trouble is this, there are plenty who talk about this, but they wont put their money where their mouths are, the owner of 35011 asked me to let everyone know that his group were looking into the possibility of doing an un rebuild and got only one interested person actually email him

That is a great shame, GSN is built had the rounded casing over the cylinders too, nice. I certainly wasn t aware of this but would have put my somewhat insignificant clout behind it had i known.
At the same time if i was had a loco to restore and i wasnt looking at this as an option i might be a bit miffed at getting dozens of emails telling me how best to do it - even if they had cheques attatched.

If a proper appeal was launched rather than asking a person to inform his mates, I'm sure the response would be much more positive. Whilst word of mouth is a useful tool, nothing beats the sort of publicity machine the A1 lads employ.

The other problem is that the owner is effectively asking other people to stump up money to restore his loco. While some would be happy to do this, I think the majority would prefer if the loco was in some kind of formal society/trust type of organisation.

I would be happy just to see 35009 turn her wheels again in anger.

That means there's every chance in the world that 35009 will be the first MN over Shap in years. A highly tantalising prospect!

Hopefully she'll be a 'Northern Bulleid' representing some proper motive power in the northern hills ;-)

I believe we are. But an enjoyable diversion all the same! But as I have said before, if someone does finally decide to do an unrebuild of a rebuild or a new-build of an unrebuilt and sets up a convincing case/society to do so, I'll try to see my way clear towards supporting it with what little money I have.

Whilst a GWR man I would love to see a Merchant Class in unrebuilt condition. From pictures I have seen they look most impressive and wuld 'fill a gap' in preservation. Obviously not a project for the faint hearted but a very worthwhile one. Has anyone ever priced up the cost to 'unconvert a bullied' ? It would seem strange to start from scratch with a number of the original class still in 'Barry Condition' and with very few shipping lines left what would it be called?! Waverly Steam Naviation perhaps?!

Many of the shiping lines the class were named after have long since gone. Blue Star Line have always been a favourite of mine, along with many others and whilst many of their ships have gone it would be great to see this classic name carried on into the future. That said Holland America Line are still going strong so perhaps the company would get behind a project?
