The latest Railway Herald mentioned the announcement of "exciting new plans" for the Barry 10, but didn't seem to say what they were! Does anyone know yet?

Well acording to Heritage Railway - 80150 to the Mid Hants in a swap for a Turntable, NRM has shown interest in 92245 (but has decided against it at the moment although the possibility remains in the future).
6686 and 44901 are to stay at Barry at the rail centre (formally VOG railway) as is the Frames of 48518 and finally 5227, 2861 and 4115 are to go to Didcot for use in of the various "replica" projects. Thats what the mag says anyway!

Sounds interesting, specially with the standard 4.

I assume you mean 92245 and not 92240 though, as 92240 resides at the bluebell railway.

What would the NRM's plans be for the 9F, remaining in her current condition for people to see a barry wreck up close?

Got the latest issue of HR yesterday and was delighted with the news about the Std tank going to the MHR. Just the right size for the line. They've got a big job on their hands though when you look at this:http://www.trackbed.com/vogr/loco_80150.htm

The Std tank will complement Ivatt 41312 very nicely!

looking at the survey, about the standard tank , it looks to have a good boiler and most of the motion parts are the same as the standard 4 4-6-0 which they already have so it shouldnt be to expensive to double up on the blanks when they order the motion for that. Things like roofs are easy for the MHR metalsmiths to do and would have been replaced in any restoration it would be ,once restored a very usefull engine ,tank locos tend to be ideal early season engines and with the large water capicity of a 80xxx it should manage a round trip ok ,and the fitters would love it also

Considering other class members exploits on the main line as well as preserved railways I would say it is an ideal high season engine as well as off peak. Just look at the miles 80079 and 80135 have put in at thir railways. I think the MHR have done very well to secure this engine!

Will be a great asset to the MHR loco fleet and will be just the ticket for mid week running.

Why did 80150 enter the Barry ten collection considering how versatile this loco is?

    Thanks

there has been much talk this last year about the standard 4 coming to the mid hants, inlcuding many visitors coming and going talking to senior persons. Will be a pain to fit it in our overhaul queue though.

Immediately, there is 31806, 45379 and 73096. But then thomas, douglas, 506, 76017 and 75079 to fit in, so it would take a while for us at ropley to get is running.

Quite right, it will be a good engine when it is finished, but remember it took 18 years to get 80072 up and running at Llangollen, plus a couple of years work previously when the loco was at Swindon. So good luck.

As a guess, owing to '72 leaving Barry before '150, then 80072 must have been in slightly better condition maybe...

The entire motion including the coupling rods and connecting rods are different on a 75XXX and an 80XXX.

i would assume the motion etc would be the same as a class 4 2--6-0 not 4-6-0

Without checking every item in detail I can say that the crossheads, connecting rods, return crank rods and return cranks are the same on the 76XXXs and the 80XXXs

are you sure about this, i can remember someone saying that the std 4 tanks were based on the 75xxx and not the 76xxx because like Arthur i thought the motion on a 76xxx would be the same as the 80xxx what is the boiler fitted to the tanks?

Can i just add, that i too am glad that the MHR have at long last seemed to get their hands on a Standard 4 tank.
    Not before time IMHO.

I remember talking to a member of the S15 group about 15 years ago and he said then it was one of the missing links in the motive power dept that the railway would love to fill. It seems that this has now occurred.

I actually had heard from a third party, a while back that the MHR were likely to be getting 80150, however i was told not to say anything because at the time nothing had been finalised.

Anyway great news if true, although i recognise it could be many years before we see the finished product emerge from Ropley works.
