All trains except the last train will have the rear loco attached and detached at winchcombe. The last train will depart toddington top and tailed. Plans have gone slightly wrong in that 4612 and 4160 were both unloaded facing north instead of south. Can't be helped now. Today yard doing a very good impression of gloucester horton road.

I was planning to call in briefly at Toddington during this event, a break of journey on a longer trip. We would not have time for a train ride, but I am sure we would have spent some money somewhere.

I have checked, and entry at Toddington is by the purchase of your day rover ticket. Unfortunately doing that for two us for say 30 minutes is not viable, so we wont call.

I am posting the information in case anyone else was wondering about entry costs.

Let me stress that I dont have any problem with this approach. The organisers have considerable expenditure to cover.

There's been a lot of adverse comment about this amongst Railwayana collectors as it will cost anyone £20 just to attend the auction being held there on 5 June

Presumably a lineside photo pass grants access?

Where's the best place to photograph steam on Stanway Viaduct as I have no idea about the area?

    Cheers, Lewis

The B4632 from Toddington roundabout towards Broadway runs past the viaduct on the western side. From memory you are about 80 to 100 metres away if that gives you a "lens" clue.

    Cheers for that :)

    Although I have seen many photos from the eastern side of the structure, such showed on the GWSR's website here;
    http://gwsr.com/news/latest-news/‘truro’-steams-over-stanway-viaduct.aspx

How do you get to this location?

    Cheers, Lewis

suggest you download "goggle earth" to your computer - its free - and have a look at the viaduct area - Its invaluable for finding photo locations - and dont forget to examine the "road view pictures" as well

Or don't download anything, just go to http://maps.google.co.uk, zoom into Toddington and drag the little yellow man onto a road you want to look at.

Thanks for your help guys, but none seem to do the trick. The above has helped me find locations south of Toddington but not for north. Ideally I would like to be on the east side of the viaduct, but without any roads to help me...i'm a bit stuck

Was at Toddington briefly this evening and there was a real buzz about the place with preparation of the locos ready for day 1 of the gala tomorrow. A few photos attached - the 8F looks fantastic. The numbers were just being applied to the cabsides this evening!

    Just to confirm loco directions:

    Facing Toddington: 7903, 4160, 7802, 9466, 3803, 5322

    Facing Cheltenham: 4612, 1450, 5542, 8264, 92203, 3717

    And a few photos attached...

Looks set to be a great event.

Here it is then! The very first photos, video and comment on the GWSR's 2010 Cotswold Festival of Steam. I visited on Saturday 29th May. Rained on and off for quite a lot of the day. Never mind! Great show put on by all locos and crews. Super stuff.

Thanks for that Michael. I also notice that someone on UK Railway Photography experienced that. I won't be paying £30 for a lineside photo pass and will stay away.

    Regards,

    Paul

Sadly, I have to say that I will be staying away too. I don't think that the GWSR has handled this well.

I am writing to say how sorry I am at seeing some of the comments on here. Quite frankly some of you do not deserve our Heritage Movement.

A lot of people have given of their time and money to put on a very special show at Toddington this week with much of what is on show spreading off the rails on to the site which is in normal times is the car park. It is therefore only right that they should expect some return for their effort, so a charge to get on site is not therefore unreasonable.

If you take the attitude that because you have to pay something you will not attend the only person who loses out is you. If we all took your attitude the only thing left to see and photo would be units running up and down the main network, that is if we are allowed to photograph!.

Stop being so stupid put your hand in pocket and enjoy the event. You may never get another chance.

I would be more than happy to pay £10, as advertised, for a lineside photo pass, in fact I'd be quite happy to pay £20 to gain admission to the site which would then allow me to travel or go lineside. Why should I pay £30 for both? If it's £20 to access the site why not then charge another £10 to travel on the trains? I suspect few people would be prepared to do that. I suspect that what will happen is that photographers will not pay anything and will get their shots from the public side of the fence. I will not attend if I am expected to pay £30 with no intention of travelling on the trains. I'm sorry, Tangmere67, if you think I am taking this attitude because I "have to pay something" but it doesn't look like a level playing field to me. I shall be taking my money to another heritage railway tomorrow.

    Paul
