Any ideas what PMR will do for the last 6months of 6233's ticket? I guess Shap will be one.

There is talk of a run on the 2nd October, Crewe to Sterling with steam from Carnforth.

Be interesting to see whether they will run tours with a different loco from next year to raise funds for 6233's overhaul??

That would be a cracking tour if the talk is true, and would probably trump Bridgnorth to Blackpool behind Leander...

To speed up the return of 6233 I wonder if Virgin Trains would fund the repairs in return for painting it like a Pendolino for say two years... Ducks and runs for cover....

In addition to The Royal Scot to Stirling on 2nd October two other tours; Tyne Valley Tourer York - Carlisle - Hellifield (starts Peterborough) on 18th September and London Explorer Derby to Kings X (starts Sheffield) on 16th October.

Great! What a day to put the jaunt to scotland on. With 5960 to blackpool and 45305 & 70013 to stranraer we yet again have a severe date clash. Would like to do it, but cromwell to stranraer gets my vote.

Well I've booked on the Stirling one, and was told that bookings are already coming in quite well.
I will probably be on the other two in a working capacity.

I'm with you on that. Three incredibly tempting tours on the same day

although i do wonder if work on 70013 may delay work on 45305 !

At least there's no shortage of main-line certified Black Fives ATM. 45407 will be at Fort William then, but 45231, 44932 or 44871 could be on the subs bench.

If the timings allow, I'd aim to see 6233 on Beattock then head across to Ayr or Girvan for Ollie and the Five.

Well I'm on the Royal Scot now and looking forward to it...

I guess clashes are always a risk with the expansion of steam tours in recent years. Better having a choice than nothing at all!

Going by what I've seen of timings for the GB3 to Stranraer this year, and the arrival time at Stirling for the PMR tour, it looks to be very possible to do both as long as you know the roads well....or at least have a decent map....

No way - the best part of the Stranraer Road took from 11.30 until 20.00.

You would need a Harrier GR3 to get from Shap and Beattock to Girvan and see both.

My preference is definitely to ride the Stranraer tour - wonder why??
