What will 686 be replacing in the engine house, as I see she is going to be in there for the immediate future?

    Cheers,
    Lewis

Guesswork, but at some point 7714 needs to come out, to be fitted with the pannier boiler that is being worked on?

Interesting to note that 42968's own tender might be the first item to utilise the new wheel drop. The wheel drop was being fitted out with its working parts when we were allowed round the shed during the recent members & shareholders weekend in May. Does anyone happen to know a best estimate of when the wheel drop is likely to be commissioned?

But isn't that scheduled to be replaced by 5764?

I don't think 7714 is due to come out until the end of the year and as has been said 5764 may be replacing her. 7325 is due to come out some time next year but i have heard 7802 is nearing the end of her ticket so perhaps she would just replace the mogul?

Great new website this, and hopefully will mean the continued effort in getting this loco back to steam is successful. 5164 is an exceptional machine.

When is she due to enter traffic?

The wheel drop entered service on 29 July with one wheelset from 42968 dropped. Pictures of the wheelset down the hole: http://www.catchmewhocan.org.uk/images/temp/Wheeldrop01.jpg and emerging: http://www.catchmewhocan.org.uk/images/temp/Wheeldrop02.jpg.

46443, out of traffic for some weeks and whose return was delayed by late delivery of tubes, was in traffic on 31 July, per Loco News 30 July.

3802, which is on loan from the Llangollan Railway for the summer season, is rostered for traffic on 4 August, per Loco News 30 July http://forum.svra.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1685.

    Locos being used this week are 7802, 5764, 7812, 46443, 5164, 4566 and visitor 3802.

Engines not available for use this week are 5764 - washout and boiler insurance exam; 42968 - valve, axlebox and ashpan repairs’ and 43106 - washout and boiler exam.

Sharpo has posted photos of "Prince" in The Engine House http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=785. Prince will stay at the Engine House for a period of 12 months. It will then move back to Ffestiniog, where a full overhaul will start to get the loco back in steam by 2013 (per SVR main site).

Engines not available for use 20 August - 42968 valve, axlebox and ashpan repairs, 3802 washout and boiler exam and 4566 repairs. 3802was lit up today and brought round to working pressure ready for the locomotive swap of 5764 remaining at Bridgnorth and 3802 going down to the Bewdley MPD.

Back on 42968, the engine was to have been off to the Churnet Valley Railway for their gala 13/14 November, but the visit has been pulled due to continuing repairs and maintenance work per Stanier Mogul Fund’s website

82045 - The August update can now be seen on their website.

2857 update: more progress has been made on the frames including the trial installation of the vacuum pump, involving aligning the pump with the connecting rod using the bolts that secure it to the side running-plate step. This job has followed the fitting of the right-hand crosshead and valve cladding. The crosshead may well be in for permanent now. Once the connecting rod has been aligned the vacuum pump will be given its final cleaning and painting ready for permanently being fixed in place, where the bolts will be securely fitted in the correct places, the excess space in the fixing holes welded up and a final layer of chassis black undercoat and the top coat of chassis black applied.

7802's boiler certificate will reach 10 years since the hydraulic test in October 2011. This of course doesn’t mean that the loco will necessarily remain in traffic until that date and equally it does not preclude operation for a brief period after it. All will depend on the condition of the boiler at each washout inspection, the view of the SVR boilersmiths and that of the insurance company. Several boiler tubes were recently replaced due to erosion/corrosion of the smokebox ends but the general condition of the tubes remains good thanks to the use of reverse osmosis water. The Erlestoke Manor Fund is seeking dates for a photo charter before withdrawal when 7802 and 7812 can both feature - any profits to go towards 7802's overhaul. Whilst there are certain relevant factors which are not yet finalised it may in the end come down to two choices: accept an event using the north part of the line only, or defer the event until early autumn 2011. Also, 7802 has been requested for the Swanage Railway Gala on 10-12 September.

Autumn Steam Gala – current visiting loco dates: 5690 due to arrive from NR 23 September to Bewdley and departs 2 October on Bridgnorth-Blackpool excursion. 3205 arrival date TBA, departure w/c 27 September. 3717 will arrive from Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway w/c 20 September and will depart w/c 27 September. 34070 due to arrive w/c 13 September to be used on service trains 18 and 19 September and 3 days of Gala, departure asap after Gala. The purchase of day rover tickets for the Gala also includes unlimited travel for the day on Bridgnorth Cliff Railway per SVR website.

Above is generally from SVR online
