This months Steam Railway cover picture, Railway Magazine has a near identical picture of 6024 published on (Page 64).. the difference... the cover of Steam Railway doesnt have the bloke hanging out of the 2nd carriage window... and the RM picture has Rods down..

I guess these pictures have been taken within a second of each other ..and assume the SR one was manipulated later to remove the bloke from the 2nd carriage.

I cant make any comment about manipulation by our competitors, but I can confirm they were taken by different photographers. Plus when SR appeared in our office, the news page had already gone to press, so nothing we could do.

Response removed retrospectively. Shades of knocking head against brick wall!

Why should Moxon 3211, who perhaps does not get published very often, not thank the magazine for this, after all it is only being polite, maybe the kudos of being published is worth more to him than the money aspect which you seem to value.
Re not hearing anything if they do not publish, could this be due to the inpracticability of responding to all the many who no doubt send submissions every month.

I agree with Ralph and don't see any need to shoot down moxon2311. I think it's great to hear that one of our members has an image published and see no harm in them showing their appreciation to the editors. While Bredbury Junction may be a regular in the media (no idea if that's the case, or not), many of us will never have had an image published in the mags, and perhaps will only occasionally get one in, so if/when we do, I see no harm in shouting about it. This forum should be all about community spirit and I think it's great to hear when members have been successful. So, I say well done moxon2311, I hope many more follow!

Maybe he's just polite.......... or maybe his ego isn't as big as the large cheques that you claim to receive. :rolleyes1:

    Quite agree Ralph.

Quite an odd comment from Bredbury Junction

I've found that not much can equal the pride (if that is the right word) of having your pictures shown in a magazine, something that has happened for me but not in any railway magazines, yet... ;-)

I like to be polite & say "Thanks" to the Magazine as "Dalry Paul" has said "I don't get MANY images published in the Magazine" & really do appreciate my images being published in the "The Railway Magazine"...

I have NOW just recently received my cheque off the Mag & I do appreciate that BUT what is of more value to me is the actual image in a Magazine that several readers can pick up off the shelves in Newsagents / Whsmiths Etc... & See my credited work in one of MANY favourited magazines that come out monthly!!

So I would think LONG & HARD before anyone says that the cheque means more to them than the image!!

Because I feel it's being credited & viewing your image in a Monthly Magazine is worth EVERY effort in this Railway Hobby!!

I agree with moxon2311 and the comments that support his view. As an amatuer and unknown railway photographer, I've been very pleased to have a few pics published from the 70's through to now and always get a kick out of seeing one of my images in RM.

I'd certainly agree with those above comments. I haven't managed to get many photos published in magazines since I went over to digital in 2007, but Steam Railway did publish some of my K&ESR gala/O1 charter shots last year and it was a great feeling of achievement that they had judged my photos good enough to get in. For me it's very much the achievement of having photos published in the magazine rather than the money, though of course the wife likes to take her cut when the repro. fee get's credited to the account:smile:

I must just add that I got great satisfaction and nothing else, from a guy in Chile who was making a publicity video for the 'Tren de Vino' and wanted to use some of my footage.
