After a frenetic few days, National Collection icon “Mallard” is back on public display, now in the Collection building at Shildon. Cab access steps have been re-erected and after some staff training, the footplate will be open at select times of the day as it was at York. We’ve parked the loco alongside “Green Arrow” and very well they look together. If you’ve not been to Shildon before, or are one of the doubters – why not come and see? It’s free!
[IMG]With connecting rods back on, air pipe off and having had a good clean, Mallard is ready for display in the main building at Locomotion. We posed it in the evening sun first though!

Very nice, so much more elegant than the great blob that is Hamilton - and I'm an LMS fan! I suppose I'd better run for cover now :)

How dare u? 6229 is a powerhouse on wheels, no easy gradients for her, up hill and down dale with steam to spare. Ok, 4468 IS elegant, but only designed for fast light trains on easy grades. keep ur tin hat on matey.

Quite agree, I'm talking just about the look of it, I've got Philip D. Hawkins 'Tracks on Canvas' on the bookshelf and it has a painting of 6230 Duchess of Buccleuch on a Euston - Glasgow - unstreamlined as built, single chimney and no defelectors, the most gorgeous loco you could wish for.
