Buseng . Why is Kevins post below the belt . Of everyone here he is probably closest to the sharp end of railtour running with his work with VT . No one likes having a diesel , I think we'd all give a lot for a very good dousing of rain especially in the south and then this thread would die quite quickly

"our passengers" have you some connection with a railtour company? Nice if people identified themselves.

Very good! I'd forgotten that one.

Must keep the humour going while those of us who only want 100% steam haulage kick our heels waiting for rain before we start booking trips again. This may be the only 2 - 3 month gap, (if it gets that long), in a good few years. So we can be patient.

Right. I'm thinking of one by the Cascades.

Hi Buseng; no not a tour company but loco crew cook i still call them our passengers if we are hired to carry them,
and i still dont think the normal passengers know how hard we all work to bring every thing together ,i know the window hanger's do know more about it but the fact remain's no one like a box on a steam run tour and i am sure the tour company's don't like using them as it cost's them more as well as they have to pay for hire of the loco and the box as well as a driver for the box so less profit in it for them.
    all the best

Please, please don't post that again. There's a good chap. I've gotta try and sleep tonight.

It's like booking and paying in advance to have a great steak dinner at a superb steak restaurant that is always very popular. You get there with your mates for a great evening, and your dinner is put in front of you. Chips, peas and salad. "Sorry, our steak supplier has run out of decent steak for the next month or so".

Anyone got the Cascades "break the fire risk" song yet?

tad rich from someone who is anonymous !!

Enthusiasts don't want to pay £70 -£80 for diesel haulage but the flexibility to just cancel a railtour because of fire risk (or any other contributory peril) at short notice quite simply doesn't exist an a fragmented market and penalty regime that exists in the UK.

As always if you think you can do better then I look forward to BUSENG railtours next summer

Spot on! One of my all time favourite pop songs.

When the rains come, and the fire risk is over, I'll play it a few times!

Maybe one option is taking a leaf from the airline's book...

when a flight gets canceled with an IATA airline, the carrier can rebook you with another carrier.

    Maybe in the "dry" season...

    we could:

    Double head steam ?
    Consolidate tours ?
    Make coach lengths shorter
Combine with a heritage diesel (not just a whatever)
**Make tickets transferable between railtour operators*** so that lessens the impact and let the promoters work it out between them ?
Cancel the ones where it's known it's not going to happen.

If a fire risk situation exists [and lets be honest there is nothoing anybody can do about it disappointing as it is] surely there is only one of three options that can be taken cancel, postpone or run 100% diesel hauled. This half way house situation of steam + diesel I would contend appeals to very few. I can see no point in running a steam locomotive that isn't able to work hard as to hear a steam locomotive working is one of the main reason most people travel on steam specials.

When the tour operators plan a trip, they have to go down the normal train planning application route so many weeks in advance so they cant envisage a fire risk happening. Once again, it's down to NR who tell the operators what will happen at the time. I know that the same old arguments will now crop up again on how the promoter should take this into the equation but fire risks don't always happen. As I said on an earlier post, this is the first fire risk for a few years so lets just deal with it and hope for some rain soon! We've not had any here in Portsmouth for some time, well I hope it can at least hold out until Sunday night as I'm camping Wednesday to Friday and then down Lakeside in Eastleigh on Sunday.

I put a youtube link to this song when you first asked about it but along with a lot of posts on here it has been removed. I am getting my knuckles rapped about this thread & think the mods are getting their wires crossed & removed the wrong posts. I thought I was doing you a favour by posting the link. They are getting it mixed up with the Swanage Belle youtube video link (which is still up) which is the one you said "please do not post again" to. 6.05 special has given you the title again. With the posts removed this thread is not making a lot of sense. I dare not post the link again in case I get into more trouble.

I put a link to a song on here after somebody asked about it & it got removed. I also got a right "telling off" for my trouble.

Buseng, I'll see if I can add another rain song or two a bit later on.

Only doing it to try and calm things down and add a little humour while us steam freaks sit around twiddling our thumbs!

Might actually start a "songs to end the fire risk season" thread on the non railway section of the Forums. Then we can play to our hearts content. LOL!

While we are on a musical search for answers maybe Buseng and KentYeti should take notice of this song title........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXcNQTa3zgs
or even better by the same band (The Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band On Earth) 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'
