Far more have come into the country than have left, so I don't think we can really copmlain about the relatively few that have gone - and some of those have gradually been making their way home in recent years!

Without a doubt. More Tractive effort than a Bayer Peacock, slightly heavier, should be more than adequate for most, if not all the single headed trains on the W&L.

Wrong gauge, although another 2'3" gauge line would be nice.....

That's easy - expel Scotland from the Union, get rid of Gordon Bean & Alistair Darling, and rebuild the Campbelltown & Macrihanish - positives all round ;-)

    I wouldn't lose the Union for anything, doesn't mean I don't think there could be another 2' 6" line...Upnor?

Having fired Chevallier at W&L (whilst boiler restricted to 100 psi) she coped well with the 1:29 on a single headed train. I would love to see her on the line long term. No obvious reason why she would not be suitable for regular service. Surely more historically relevant to the W&L (or S&K etc) than a loco from Romania!

Having confirmed how Chevallier is spelt, how is it pronounced?

Is it like that French chap, Maurice? Or, I've heard it said "Shev-a-leer".

Sir William Mcalpine the ex-owner always insisted the R at the end was pronounced!

Simples; the speculation is due to the owner having an active involvement with the restoration of the 2ft 6in (760mm) Sibiu-agnita line in Romania.

Either with a frog in the throat or affectionately by crews as 'shoveller'.

One word if wisdom picked up on my travels was deposito. If a french word ends with one of the letters of that word then it is not pronounced. Now why did they not teach me that in school..

As there is no R in deposito then it is pronounced.
