Just back from the first two runs of the season and 5043 performed faultlessly as usual.
This is my favourite job on support crew, it only takes three or four of us to do it and the workload is easy enough for us to enjoy the trip too.
For those of you who haven't be on a Shakespeare I can't recommend it highly enough. You get the best of both worlds, a leisurely branch line type run along the North Waricks and the Bearley branch then the mainline dash from Hatton Jcn to Snow Hill and all for the princely sum of £17.50 or £20 if you pay on the day.
Next week 11 July it's the turn of 4965, 18 July tba........watch this space.

A few shots of the second run of the day at Widney Manor. Seemed to be powering along out of Dorridge as the Earl could be heard a long time before she came into sight, even beating the noise from the adjacent M42. Suddenly she seemed to be shut off accompanied by the clag show.

Hi Mike, yes she was going well until we passed Dorridge but then we got slowed by two sets of double yellows. Probably caused by a Chiltern ahead of us stopping at Solihull. The same thing happened on the second run a few times last year too.
    Excellent pics by the way.:)

Heres a link to my efforts ...

1st run was captured at Wilmcote and then the afternoon run, with quite heavy cloud cover, was caught as 5043 powered through Shrewley cutting... Sounded superb. I spotted Mike Notley on the footplate. I shall look forward to reading his report.

The day before, 17th July, 6201 Princess Elizabeth has her New Street - Euston trip. Maybe I'm putting 2 and 2 together to make 22, but if were up to me, I'd keep 6201 in steam overnight and send her to Stratford on Sunday, rather than lighting up another loco. Support crew etc permitting, of course!

As far as I know 4965 will be performing solo on Sunday, I'm in tomorrow helping to get her ready so if there's any change I'll post on here late tomorrow afternoon.

    What happened?

I saw 4965 climbing strongly up Wilmcote Bank this afternoon after a normal time departure of 16.10/16.15 (Depending on whether you believe SE leaflet or UK Steam). However while I was driving into Claverdon at 17.15 I saw several fotters and spectators still standing on Claverdon Bridge. I pulled over and they said the Shakespeare hadn't gone through. So either it failed (highly unlikely) between Wilmcote and Claverdon OR it returned to Birmingham on the North Warwickshire Line leaving many people disappointed - including me as I'd love to get some shots on the NWL while the semaphore signals are still in place.

So come on saltydog - spildebeenz...

We were still waiting at Hatton 60 mins after it was due, and unusually, it didn't come just after I'd left! Very mysterious, we'll have to wait and see!

The Hall set off a small lineside fire at Widney manor during the first run so the second was cancelled, unfortunately! It was sent down the North Wrks line.
All three of us were a bit miffed as the station staff could have told us earlier so we had at least a chance to drive over there.
    All the best....

The small lineside fire must have started as a result of the candles on Emily's Birthday cake. There are probably four of them this year. If you look carefully at your photos you'll see the lunchtime run was "Emily's Birthday Express" not "The Shakespeare Express".

    This was an earlier edition.....

    Still working on todays pics...

Typical it has to happen today, the forecast for the next week in the Midlands is rather wet so i don't think we need to worry about fire risk for 6201 next weekend.

I didn't have much luck myself either, going to the Nene Valley expecting 73050 and the Polish Tank and being bowled by a class 31 :( , (the website must of been updated after i looked before you ask!)

Can't comment on 'the small lineside fire', but yes it is Emily's 4th birthday on Thursday 15 July so tradition said that the lunchtime run was the ' Emily's Birthday Express'. Happy birthday for Thursday Emily.:cheer2: I can't wait 'till your 18th and we still put up the Noddy headboard and embarrass you in front of all your friends.:)
As we were putting 4965 to bed tonight she did say that she really enjoyed today and that she would love to do next week too.
I think that there is a distinct possibility of that happening.
