    Alex,

Not sure who told you that Snallwell locos were always clean? You don't have to look any further the back cover of the Book Law/ Malcolm Castledine publication on County Durham to see a lovely colour picture of 71515 in steam and nice grubby (but not S Wales filthy).

I know two people who said they won't be too upset if they have to miss the gala as 71515 isn't in the condition they remember it. Obviously their loss but it just shows there is a market for grubby engines! (And B4 anyone jumps on their high horse I know it is the owners right to do whatever they want with their engine etc etc etc even paint it LMS maroon!) Gald you are making a few tweaks - are the numbers part of that?

With Foxfield, Bowes, Snibstone, Rutland, Chasewater and Tanfield we are lucky to have six railways which can recreate genuine industrial scenes...far better than all that over rated and over polished mainline stuff! Just need some dirty engines....

    See you on Friday,

    David

Whatever next!! I can't believe that some people won't visit (and financially support) a railway because its locos are too clean! :mmph:

    Richard,

It is a free country... people are also time and money constrained so choices have to be made. I know that they will support other events.

    Cheers,

I have met a couple of people over the years who have genuinley believed that steam railways should be free admission and that people shouldnt be allowed to travel on the trains as they hang out of the windows and ruin photographs.

That is why photo charters are so popular....and why Foxfield attracts so many paying photographers as there are no heads out of coal wag(g)ons! Don't think that too many people would go just for the ride? The bank and coal trains is what it is all about.

And for the record the two people I mentioned make significant financial contributions to the preservation movement each year.

Shame that they'll miss the first steamings of Dubs for nigh on 30 years because they don't want 71515 clean! But then if a crane tank in steam and working isn't enough of a draw then what can you say?

Very true, and three austerities, plus a Bagnall that has never steamed in preservation...gala of at least the year. Best bit is still the bar though, worse bit is the blow up bed going deflatting whilst you are in there!

Anyhow isn't in about time a thread was started for the October gala....thanks to some resignalling work in Germany hope to be there now!

    Exactly. Mine has just about...

Also a Princess in LMS livery on a rake GWR liveried mk2s being pushed down the WCML by a Brush in pusedo BR green livery under the wires or a realxing afternoon drinking tea, eating cake and watching three austerities thrashing up Foxfield bank...and you are even thinking about it?? Book a nice table for Sunday lunch and all will be forgiven! Bring the children and you will get even more brownie points!

The restoration of the dubs carne tank is nearing completion, on mooday the 5th of july the engine was pulled out of the shed and had it's boiler test which it passed. Here is a link to a short video of the slewing engine in operation. More video posts are due to be uploaded to you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy5pc64NQPE.

That isn't clean! If it turns up like that http://bobby-hunter.fotopic.net/p57308384.html I will volunteer to go Blaenavon to clean it afterwards... Also the cab sheets are rather nice!

I have only ever seen a few British preserved engines in preservation anywhere near that dirty - No.22 at Bowes, The Riley 5 and 4 and not many more. Now in Germany...
