I understand that 9466 will be chimney first from Looe to Coombe Junction and may give the Class 37 a gentle nudge on the way up the hill to Liskeard!

Note the Looe branch shuttle tickets include travel on FGW trains west of Newton Abbot (inc), but excluding the sleeper, on the day of use on either Sunday 19 or Sunday 26 September and the positioning moves to and from the West Midlands with the Class 37 also include travel on FGW. On the second weekend it is also the Bodmin and Wenford Diesel Gala.

    Cracking!

This year also marks the 150th anniversary of the Looe Branch. Was the last steam over the branch really September 1961?

All we need now is the right timings so both trains are at Liskeard at the same time!!

given the platform layout at Liskeard , branch platform at 90degrees to main line platform , capturing such a moment may be something of a challenge

Based on the timings on the Vintage Trains website (yes - there are timings on the VT website! I'm shocked!) and the RTC website (it says "Actual Timings", but these may be from the cancelled trip on 29th May), 9466 should be at Liskeard from 12.10 to 12.55 and 5029 calls there at 12.40. However, I doubt whether it will make for much of a photo (unless you can come up with a clever angle) as the Looe platform is at right-angles to the mainline and 9466 will be at the far end away from the mainline.

Good point Sidmouth, must admit hadn't thought of that.
Now I wonder how much Castle Air would want to charter a chopper for an hour!!!

Seriously I suppose the best chance would be to get the mainline charter on the viaduct as the branch line train runs under inthe valley

Now when was the last time you could connect out of a mainline Castle-hauled train into a mainline Pannier-hauled train?

Probably 9466 in light steam dragged by the 37!

The 37 and stock are going down on the advertsied positioning train on Saturday 18th September and returning north on a similar train on Monday 27th September. I would guess that 9466 will be moved down to Plymouth by road (possibly direct from the Mid-Norfolk Railway where it is based until 30th August).

Any train with 9466 in the formation would be restricted to 45MPH so i think you can forget that being towed in the Brum - Plymouth tour formation, low loader to Laira more likely i'd say.

9466 will be moving by low loader to Laira.

Now here's a question - we know that 94xx class engines were based at Truro and Penzance for a time and there is a loads book entry for 94xx tanks on the Looe branch, but did one ever make it on to the branch to break the reign of the small Prairies?

If you're interested in seeing how 9466 does this September book with Vintage Trains quickly - I believe the tickets are selling fast!

I bit the bullet and booked journey C on 26 September this morning. It'll provide a nice 'warmer' for my trip to Stirling on October 2. Looking forward to what should be an interesting day out...

Apologies if this has already been raised:

Was talking to a friend recently, and he raised the point that if, as stated the pannier is running smokebox first into Liskeard on the branch, it will be at the wrong end of the train for the run back to Plymouth in the evening?

9466 will be on the back of the train coming into Liskeard (the VT website mentions it banking the train from Coombe Junction to Lixkeard), so it will be on the front for the return to Plymouth.
