    46115 Cotton Mill Express

Scots Guardman managed one loop off the Cotton Mill Express, arriving at Manchester Victoria for the 2nd time early.

Then everybody was taken off the train and it limped off, making a lot of odd noises towards Bury. Any news on this third fail of the year?

Don't even go there Ben! Bloody Sat Navs! Coming away from Diggle this afternoon, it took us down a lane that ended in a field... Still telling us to go forward... I hate to admit it but I feel you was right, a map is required haha. Simon

Well i saw 46115 for the very first time at Leeds not so long ago on a railtour from York to Kings cross. I read that she peformed well on that excursion, but when She's Scheduled for a Cotton Mill express are trip, the loco fails. This isn't a good year for Steam seeing various Loco failures in recent months.

Looking at the previous posts it seems to have gone towards Castleton after leaving the passengers at Manchester.

Oh what a bummer. I was really pleased to see her on the Dorset Coast run last week, what a lovely engine. I hope that the failure is a minor repair and not a huge one.

As an aside, wasn't this thread title rather tempting fate......:tape2:

Lol I suppose you could say that indeed. I too agree, hopefully a quick fix. I doubt WCRC will be too pleased with today's unfortunate episodes of the Black 5 and Scot.

Looking at Simon's video it does sound very like gland packing failure, leaking tap never causes the exhaust from that cylinder to go completely flat like that has. Hopefully should be a comparatively easy fix.

I've uploaded two of my clips from today at Copy Pit and Darwen, not sounding too good. Full coverage will be available on the 'Part 4' DVD with all of today's shots.

On another forum, Ian Riley says that the problem is the middle cylinder packimg. He adds that the loco is being repaired at Castleton, not the ELR, for a return to Carnforth this evening.
